Sooner or later, politics comes for us all, even Ed Sheeran.
Quoting
I'm going to post the full text of #Macklemore's response to his cancellation from #EdSheeran's tour
I'm not going to editorialize. I'm not going to provide context- you can search the news
I think it's important because he doesn't get angry. He doesn't burn bridges
And he doesn't back down from a clear moral stance. He's generous and even-handed
Effective communication on an important topic

@MaddieM4@raphus.social Years and years ago, I saw some prototype devices that were supposed to help athletes cool down quickly. They’d put their hand in this chamber, which would subject it to cold air, and the idea was to cool their entire body by cooling the blood circulating through their hand. I thought it was a pretty interesting concept, and now that I think about it, it was like a reverse gom jabbar.

I’ve seen several comments that assume this is AI-generated. I don’t think that’s the case. I have no background in psychology, but I think this is who Holmes is—she’s a psychopath.

The person next to me on the flight watched Fox News for the entire 3 hour, 45 minute flight.
Fox News is freaking out over El-Sayed winning the Democratic primary in Michigan. Apparently (according to Fox News), he’s a far-left communist who wants to destroy the country, and the Democratic Party is fracturing and falling apart over all the communists who are infiltrating the party.
Ooookaaaay.

@MaddieM4@raphus.social As someone who’s followed and supported all of these organizations for ~25 years, it’s difficult to view them as “vanity projects for rich people.” I won’t defend them, but I can’t see them as evil just yet. I suspect others who are defending them find themselves in a similar situation.

@bobmagicii@phpc.social @GuillaumeRossolini@infosec.exchange I know all the SSIDs my phone has stored, they all require authentication, and I have the feature “ask to join WiFi” turned off, so it shouldn’t ever attempt to join anything, so this caught me off guard.

I was out and about and noticed my phone connected to a WiFi network called “Open Roaming.” I’ve never seen this before, and it freaked me out. It turns out, it’s a thing, and my device supports it automatically.

In Vancouver, and I just saw a little kid, maybe 4 or 5, wearing a Ninja Turtles t-shirt using the turtles design from the 1987 cartoon, and it was in French, and I felt like I was taken out of time and placed in an alternate universe, for a moment.

@GeePawHill@mastodon.social Can the equals symbol be replaced with other symbols for more complex comparisons? That’s the only reason I can think of to force inclusion of it.
That said, while far from perfect, I’ve thrown money at that lone developer who maintains Calibre, since it’s the best open source option we have.

I went through security in Nashville today without ever showing my boarding pass or ID. Everything was handled with facial recognition.
Boarding the plane from Salt Lake City to Vancouver, they did the same thing. No boarding pass or passport check, just facial recognition.

@Crell@phpc.social I mean, the magnetometer I always go through in Nashville is right next to a fancy millimeter wave machine that I rarely, if ever, see used. I usually only see them send elderly people through it. I guess because of embedded medical devices?

@MaddieM4@raphus.social Good point. The discourse is so polarizing on any topic these days, when someone is critical of anything, the automatic reaction is to assume a good vs. evil stance, hence the defensiveness others are displaying and my statement that I can’t view them as evil.

@carnage4life@mas.to I think the comparison to a compiler is flawed. You trust the compiler because it’s deterministic. An LLM is not. You never know exactly what it’s going to give you, depending on the model used, your prompt, the time of day, whether Mercury is in retrograde, the alignment of the planets, etc.

@alex@social.alexschroeder.ch HTML 2 was the last IETF RFC, after which it moved to the W3C’s standards process, where HTML 3, 4, and 5 were defined and, now, are continually updated as a living standard.
I’m not sure what point you’re making about it not having an IETF RFC or how that relates to being offline.
