Fuel economy conspiracy theories are silly. If American customers cared more about it, not as an abstract thing but as a practical spec in purchasing, a lot of these crazy advances people claim are being suppressed would be implemented immediately. Well, if those things even work in real world conditions. Mod an engine and you could post some truly ridiculous numbers, but does it hold up in start/stop? Does it last as long as a traditionally designed engine? Lots of people into this conspiracy...

One of the more popular vendor systems in #SecondLife, Casper, apparently got hit by this vulnerability. They expect all purchases to go out soon(it's started but it's a lot of them to process), and several vendors have said they're ready to manually handle refunds/redeliveries if someone slips through the cracks. My dad has a katana in the park utility truck, best guess till I talk to him is someone moved out and left it behind. Some oddities. The way the blade is rusted it's probably carbon steel, but, it has no sharp edge. The bevel terminates in a very thin, but also very flat, side. Usually for modern swords, if you were going to do that you'd make the thing out of stainless steel. Which can rust in the right conditions, but it's an oddity. I can't tell if the handle is plated or so...

So lets assume that the Highlander universe has a True Faith merit like the World of Darkness. Would an immortal with sufficient faith make the ground they walk on Holy Ground? What would happen if they fought someone? It's possible Holy Ground is cultural and Connors sword shattering in Highlander III was just a coincidence, still, it could be an issue. Darius hadn't fought in a long time after he hid himself away in the church. Could he have effectively fought even if he thought...

Wacky theory because it seems like something an adaptation would do- In #Lanterns, Antaans homeworld will turn out to be Mogo, and there will be a brief conflict with John Stewart and maybe Guy Gardner while they sort things out and Mogo joins the Corps at the end of the season.

I think we're losing on calling LLM output slop. Because... that's not so universal as it was. A current model prompted by someone who isn't a complete idiot can produce useful results. They still need to be reviewed and tested, but the results of vibe coding can be fit for task. It won't be long before that's just a losing argument, period, at least for vibe coding(control software for safety crtiical systems is another matter) The ethical arguments though? The massive res...

So the #MCU, Wanda Maximoff is a witch and Vision a robot. Their kids are a witch and a speedster. Huh? The closest other speedster? Pietro Maximoff, Wandas brother. The brother she was... very close to in the Ultimate comics, which the MCU has drawn on for things like a Black Nick Fury.

Imagine in a century or so when people have forgotten all the signs of AI images and someone decides to start a major research project into the outbreak of human polydactyly that their grandparents and great grandparents never talked about?

I think I've worked out why AI art can be so unsettling to me. Even when it doesn't add fingers or make other obvious mistakes... it's too perfect. Lines too straight, or too consistently curved, faces and such perfectly symetrical, it's like it took human art and averaged everything out into a generic representation of what art even is. One artist veers a little to the left, the other to the right, AI gives you straight up and down. The small quirks that let art come alive are...

Thinking about my mom- was lucky to have her as long as I did. About 20 or so years ago she got out of bed, still tired, at the top of the stairs she had a stroke and went down. Her recovery took some time, but if you didn't know her well before and after to compare, it would look like a full recovery. Just a stroke, or just a stairfall, can kill people. Both at once? You're moderately tough to get through it at all, and for a near complete recovery in a matter of months? That's s...

I need a decent headset for my PC. Priorities: Budget 100USD. Might be able to bump this up a little bit for something really good, but I'd say 150 is probably the hard limit. 150.01 is too much. Must be durable, I'm prone to dropping them, or putting them too close to the edge of my desk, they fall, and I then step on them. I'd like this to not always be fatal on single incidents. Sound clarity over volume. 1/8" audio cable connection. I am willing to use a 1/8 to 1/4 ad...

Wild Bobs Burgers headcanon I've had for a while. Now, Bob Belcher is bi. Technically there's a tiny amount of room to walk it back, but his interaction with the turkey guy makes things pretty clear. What if the source of the rivalry with Jimmy Pesto is that they dated while younger, Pesto didn't want to come out. Bob is humiliated and now would never admit he had such terrible taste as to be interested in Pesto even if he were to properly come out, while Pesto thinks any queerness...

It sucks being scared to get involved in community or social events with new people, like MTG nights at a game store or other hobby events for fear of transphobic assholes. Got lucky with this changeling group I found on roll 20.

When MCU introduces Wolverine, they should make it clear he was affected by Thanos snap and spent the next 5 years healing and resnapping, in a torturous limbo state, until Hulk fixed things. Maybe have some balls and have Logan having gone through that and gone completely off the rails as a result(his healing factor apparently helps with psychological damage, but it has to have some limits), and they have to have X-23 take him down and be the MCU Wolverine. Or really anything to put Laura Kin...

So Dawkins thinks Claude is conscious. I remember a lot of the atheist/skeptic movement was all about not claiming expertise outside your actual area of specialty, and to discount claims of people acting outside their expertise. Dawkins is a geneticist, not a research psychologist or neurologist or anything of the sort. Granted, genetics certainly play a role in consciousness of biological organisms, but it's psychology and neurology which would be the relevant fields to identify what cons...

If you have a slow draining sink, filling it to the top and pulling the plug can create enough force to dislodge whatever the blockage is. It is important to not forget this thirty seconds after starting the water or you may have other problems before long.

About to run out of the cheapass soy sauce from dollar general, splurged(like four bucks) on Kikkoman. The cheap stuff is basically "broke and need it right now" for me. Actually brewed soy sauce is just way better, even on the cheaper end, and Kikkoman is pretty readily available and not priced at some ridiculous level.

Oh, so at work a couple weeks ago someone had set aside an item we had received as damaged. It was a cake pan with the bottom having fallen out. A springform pan. The latch had opened and the bottom fell out. If you are familiar with these pans, this is exactly a thing they are meant to do. Popped it back open, put the bottom in correctly and closed it up, and what do you know, it's all perfect. It wasn't a warped bottom or damaged latch preventing it from properly closing, it was a...

Saw a reference to the VHS/Betamax war and said it was just price vs quality. Not really. That was a factor- video quality on Betamax was superior, but VHS had longer playback even on the earliest players and tapes. That's a significant technical advantage if you want to put, say, an entire feature length movie on one tape. Later versions of the Beta standard did offer longer runtimes, but that also reduced the quality advantage. This was a significant factor that most retrospectives of...
