Hey @timhollo - that's not the direct action I had in mind but every successful campaign utilises multiple techniques and efforts, so I fully support you taking direct action in the way you feel is right

Hey Captain Obvious 👋
You're talking area @ketumbra@infosec.exchange while I'm talking population - both of the nation and it's prisons (which is one of the few things the USA is still #1 at)
My primary school grasp of geography remains thankfully intact.
Hey it's #alternateFridayMusic 🎉
and the cue this week is:

Italian-Australian Santo Cilauro let's us in on some:
The Late Show - Things Wogs Would Never Do
The song doesn't kick in until after 1 minute. Part Dylan, part something else, some of the lyrics here have aged unexpectedly well:
🎶 I don't eat curry, I don't eat jam
I don't drink cider and I don't like spam
I've never tasted Vegemite
tin spaghetti or Activite
I don't go camping in a Kombi van
I've got heaps of uncles but none called "Stan"
My father doesn't play no golf
When I was small, I hated Rolf
I never joined a protest march
My garden is devoid of grass
..
I won't stick braces on my kids
or tell them that the wrestling's rigged
... 🎶

Hey it's #alternateFridayMusic 🎉
I'm going to try a different kind of cue this week, so please tell me if the idea has legs, or not. Be blunt and honest. This weeks cue is:
What gets you energised?
For me, the song that I use the most to psych myself up, to get energised, to put on my game face right now is:
Bluejuice - Vitriol
Sing along at the Church of Bluejuice:
🎶 Good luck and don't dare give up
Give it a little bit of vitriol
And if it's really gonna cut you up
Give it a little bit of vitriol
And if you can't shape up, nobody wants you
Fuck the whole world and what everybody's saying, hey
Good luck and don't dare give up
Give it a little bit of vitriol (Hey!) 🎶

How do you make a world-wide hit? Plaguarise a children's song and add quirky lyrics about a place most people have never been:
Men At Work Down Under
"Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree" never sounded better:
🎶 Traveling in a fried-out Kombi
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said
"Do you come from a land down under
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover"
Buyin' bread from a man in Brussels
He was six-foot-four and full of muscle
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich
And he said
"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover", yeah
Lyin' in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me?
Because I come from the land of plenty" 🎶

and the cue this week is: #bleak
I'm bringing the bleak from the 90's dancefloors:
Sonic Animation - Love Lies Bleeding
There's a funny video clip for the radio edit but I prefer the longer album version.
Sometimes you need a little help to deal with the bleak moments in life:
🎶 I'm feeling speedy, I'm feeling slow, I'm feeling seedy
I'm feeling greedy, I'm feeling happy, I'm feeling shite
I'm feeling you
You're feeling tight
I'm feeling lonely, I'm feeling shaky, I'm feeling sad

Sometimes songs don't age badly, society does. Lyrically, they foresaw the future in this banger, probalby my favourite of theirs:
TISM - Thunderbirds Are Coming Out
Shot in one take, the video features 30 bands from the Melbourne scene in 1998 miming to this song. It's not only funny but also now a nostalgic snapshot.
Of all the bands in this video,on #TISM and the Ringwood Secondary College Choir & Orchestra are the only two you could go and see play today.
🎶 I was my parents' puppet till my teenage years
When I rebelled and swapped them for my peers
I used to sit for hours all alone
Without an opinion to call my own
I had to keep this compulsion to myself
This need to be like everybody else
But now I'm out of the closet and I feel free
'Cos I just saw Thunderbirds on TV
Sing if you're proud to be plastic now
Thunderbirds are coming out
Yes I've been outed and I'm so happy
I've found a role model just for me
I think I could be like those puppet guys
'cos there's less to them than meets the eye 🎶

Sidewinder - Titanic Days
A single lifted from the album named after everyone's favourite orange fruit, Tangerine:
🎶 I know you don’t feel anymore
I've got sixteen hours and then you're gonna show me the door
A payphone vandal, Jesus sandal
Live in sin to win, titanic days
I’ve got ten minutes to go
Stick around and maybe it shows
I've had twenty-three years or more to go under the floor
A goat's head ordered, policeman's called
The times we're living in, titanic days
You've looked for me in all the wrong places

Midnight Oil - Stand in Line

🎶 Oh get down, getting down, so much money in the ground
For the people who don't deserve it now
It's a circus, we're the clowns, everybody knows,
They take away something that we call home
Well it's a pity 'bout the middle class Holden mass

Hey it's #alternateFridayMusic 🎉 with a cue of:
What gets you energised?
The songs of one of the worlds greatest song writers, Grant McLennan have energised my life since the late 80's.
Grant died 20 years ago today.
This is not his most energetic song but it is my favourite song that he crafted:
The Go-Betweens - Cattle and Cane
https://youtu.be/HFf7Nat1Y1E
For the music nerds, from the drummer, Lindy Morrison
"Grant had written that song and [...] he wrote it in that time signature. It's a bar of five, then a bar of two, then a bar of four, so the phrase is eleven beats [...] but when you get to the chorus it goes to four-four. The final section is [...] over the verse chord [...] back into the eleven pattern."
🎶 I recall a bigger, brighter world
A world of books and silent times in thought
And then the railroad, the railroad takes him home
Through fields of cattle, through fields of cane
From time to time, the waste, memory wastes
And the waste, memory wastes 🎶

You pour heart out writing a plaintive rock / love song in the 70's, even going so far as to name it Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again replete with Renoir references. The song's a hit, the band's a success and you take it on the road...
...and you're met with #vitriol by your fans.
every time you play the song.
Even in the year you died, the band replaced you with some other bloke and while sounding worse than a cover band of themselves, the audience is still at it:
The Angels - Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again - The Gov - Adelaide, 2014
I mean, FFS, the uploader named it after the audience chant - not the song title 🤣
50 years after the song was released, 12 years after you died, it's the still the audience chant that's being remembered. Sorry Doc 🤷🤣

🎶 You the mothers who sent your sons
Wipe away your tears
For those who fought and those who fell
Become our sons as well
You the warriors with your words
Throw away your spears
You talk of times of peace for all
And then prepare for war
All the people with dreams, all the mothers with sons
All the people with dreams never woken at night by the sound of guns
Like a child that's born on a moonless night
Like a child that's born, we parachute down to an unknown fight
This city of blossom and blood
This city suffered more than it should
These sidewalk silhouettes not washed away, not washed away
...
Whatever you've done, whatever you think you've done, whatever you've done
There's a hope in the heart says never again
Never again, whatever you say, whatever you say
It's the price of peace to remember that day 🎶

Well now history is a pack of lies, as any fool can tell. So when I got down to Hobart town I told my story well. But do you think they would believe one word I said? For they thought that I was covering for my mates still at large. Said they'd be roaming in the bush so wild and free and back to old Macquarie Harbour they sent me:
liar
A true tale of horror in the most beautiful place in the world. You should visit all the places named in this song:
Weddings Parties Anything - A Tale They Won't Believe
Like the setting and story, the film, Van Dieman's Land, is also both beautiful and frightening. The juxtaposition of the sweet sound of Scot's Gaelic, the beauty of Tasmania and the horror of what's unfolding in this true story is unforgettable.
🎶 Well the four of us kept marching to a place called Western Teirs
A country full of tasty game but for us it held no cheer
We had no guns we were traveling without hope
But the axe it loomed so ominous and God's hand was at play
A sick man is a type of game which can not run away
So stay easy, my poor man, your time's at hand
So that night we made fires out of twigs and out of bark
And our stomachs they were grumbling all through the night so dark
I can't say I feel guilty, after all it wasn't me
But when the sun came up next morning the four had turned to three
And I said, right there's another one, don't you frown
Chew the meat and hold it down, It's a tale they won't believe
When I get down to Hobart town 🎶

When Australia was neck deep in punk, pub rock and the emerging grunge scene, in 1990 the Killjoys felt all our lives needed a little more vibraphone in them.
Can't say I disgreed and this track is off what remains the most beautiful album in my collection. Posting the entire lyrics as they're not online and I had to read them off the vinyl cover...
🎶 A grinning sun, some birds and trees
The colours run
Is that a picture you'd think I'd forget
When it's all right there, laid out in front of you
Never do something that you'd regret
But here and now
What would they ever know
If you and I, we took just one
And kept it alight
Though I know it's wrong to think no harm in this
I'd never undermine the vows you made
And give them back just as soon as you wanted them
Unless it's lost it's something you can't keep
...seasons never keep the peace inside
Someone's always feeling left behind
Though the path's well worn by now
Never's not enough anyhow
Funny how you're never really satisfied
Always looking to the greener side
Sometimes leap like sailors do in calenture
When what you wanted most was right beside 🎶

Hey! It's #fortnightFridayMusic & the cue is:
#red
Jumping across the ditch to New Zealand, where there is clearly something mind altering in their water with these whacky art boys:
Split Enz - I See Red
If you want to know what 2 members of Crowded House did before Crowded House, that's a video for you:
🎶 I respect your wishes
You gave me such precious hours
What to do without you
Squeezed me out of your life
Down the drain like molten toothpaste
I feel used and spat out
Poor old me
When my baby's walking down the street
I see red, I see red, I see red
How could someone wicked walk round free
I see red, I see red, I see red
I see red, I see red, (hey!)
I see red 🎶
