Dr Alice Violett

It's okay, I've 'disabled new Acrobat'. Which always sounds quite violent.

Atypical week = I don't know what day it is any more. Blursday.

God save me from people trying to "help" unasked. I have a system and you're messing with it, dammit!

Disappointed to discover a PhD studentship titled 'cultivating fungal literacy in gardens' isn't about teaching mushrooms to read.

Hearing that the 'smart' fridges on a fancy Cambridge research campus aren't opening this morning, and the workers are on the edge of revolt because they can't access the milk.

Oh yeah, #BandShirtFriday

@lproven@social.vivaldi.net 🎵 your own, personal, Jesus 🎵

Alright, which of yehs turned up the brightness of the moon?

It doesn't help that ALL THE ALBUMS are out tomorrow (which is #BandcampFriday) and I'm only working in the morning, and I kind of want to fast-forward to that.

Migraine hangover, want to do all the things because I'm no longer in pain, but also want to do very little because I feel kinda washed-out 🙃

You'd never guess the sticker preceded me choosing today for this particular review (it was meant to represent Emotional Madness).

@lordsplodge@brettspiel.space @grayson@thepage.house @iain@ohai.social @jcl@tabletop.social my friend and I often meet in the pub for games. Lighting/colour is usually fine (with the exception of Quirkle). But recently, the pub started putting on live music partway through our usual session, so we try to get thinkier games/ones she still needs a bit of help with out of the way before that!

Went to Saaaaarfend for the day with le boyfriend, got the train to the end of the pier, had lunch, then walked back, and acquired three books (me) and a board game (him).

Today's my stop on the Ghost Notes blog tour! Read my review of this big-hearted and thought-provoking addition to the Skelfs series: https://www.draliceviolett.com/blog-tour-ghost-notes/ #bookstodon #BookMastodon

July round-up is here! See what I read last month, and what I hope to read this month: https://www.draliceviolett.com/what-i-read-in-july-2026/ (Publishing a blog post on a Sunday night probably isn't very "strategic", but ehhh.) #bookstodon #BookMastodon

(Who's running #ThursdayFiveList today? I have a theme idea if nothing's been organised)

@muz4now@mastodon.world 50-100 (keeps me sane while working!), mostly post-punk but also general alternative, punk, new wave, shoegaze, dream pop, post-hardcore... I generally choose what albums to listen to based on what's stuck/randomly come into my head, or what's new that I would like to stick in my head 😁

#JukeboxFridayNight #PersonalPlaylist The temptation to just post the songs behind my tattoos again is real. But no! Going with AFI - Bleed Black, because it's the first song of theirs I remember hearing, leading to 22 years (and counting) of appreciation, and absolute chills when I finally got to hear it live last month (how has it been four weeks already?!). https://youtu.be/J1TQCNmMq0Y
