One of the top threads on the ClaudeAI subreddit right now: "I am done with this shit" https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1wm5c21/i_am_done_with_this_shit/ Curious to see just how much of the thread on a quite pro-genAI subreddit is people commiserating on the exhaustion of their work turning primarily into tedium and poor engineering. Bonus in that the Claude AI summary bot in the thread says: > The Rise of the Meat Proxy: You're not an engineer anymore, you're an "organic vessel designed to press enter." Or, as one user so poetically put it, you're just a condom between Claude and your production server getting fucked. Your only real job is to be the warm body they can blame when the AI slop inevitably breaks.

@cwebber@social.coop "you're just a condom between Claude and your production server getting fucked" is the best description of modern software engineering I've read in a while.

@cwebber@social.coop reminds of Canadian agriculture, with all the highly integrated multinational service and supply corporations set up to be as profitable as possible, the individual farm organization is now setup to take all the risks. It’s the farmer that will fail, none of the corporations setup to profitize from this. It’s the pathetic human “programmer” setup to take the fail. AI is guaranteed to remain profitable.

  • @cwebber@social.coop hell is other people &c &c, even if you want to use the tools in more pragmatic ways you'll be drained by the coworkers that have turned off their brains, and the hiring situation is the worst I have ever seen

@cwebber@social.coop Claude was quoting multiple users like mojomonday (I’m just an organic vessel designed to press enter); hyperadapted (you mean like a meat-proxy?) etc..

  • @cwebber@social.coop I started using Claude about 3 months ago for a personal project and I was pleasantly surprised that it nudged me in the direction of test driven design. It wanted me to build my test cases first. And it was willing to do the heavy lifting on building those test cases and on doing the documentation. Also the output that it gave was first rate. I truly believe that in the right environment Claude is a fantastic engineering assistant.

@cwebber@social.coop That's why I use AI for fun, not food. Or something. Lol. And keep it scoped. If I try to make an app that has every TTS engine ever, something's gonna break. But if I make a Keynote Gold app, that's much easier to keep little enough for the AI and my non-existent brain, to encompas.

@cwebber@social.coop i've never been to this sub so my first reaction is to see "Claude-AI-mod-bot" with top reply, and, i guess, mod control over the entire sub it's so fucking dystopian: people expressing their frustration, then a soothing plastic AI voice eliciting control and reply *over* the human frustration we're building our own prison fuck that fuck AI

@cwebber@social.coop as an outsider, from what I can tell having looked into it (well, not the reddit you just linked) initially the only way companies knew how to make putatively good chatbots was the extremely consumptive general pre-trained dense, large-model perceptrons of a single hidden layer. All these people optimistically jumped onto their bobsleds, not wanting to miss out. However once moved behind closed doors, the new multilayer perceptron ("moe") gpts benchmark while increasingly sucking.

  • @cwebber@social.coop Someone in that thread mentioned something called "AI 2027" and I found this: https://ai-2027.com/ Obvious divergence w/ reality... all the fundamental weaknesses of the technology are fantasized away as it takes over the world. God this feels like NFTs again. They include "criticism" like "people hate AI because it'll take their jobs." No, people think you look dumb. Like a celeb posting "All my apes gone" on social media. It's at least partially irony-poisoned pity.

@cwebber@social.coop Oh G-d, that hits home. A couple hours ago I was looking at “written by Claude Code” on a PR description that promised a manual verifications having been done, and all I could think of was “did you actually do it, or did your bot just write a nice looking text that you wish was real?..” I’m tired…
