@petersuber@fediscience.org ...so the UK Government *can* make senior managers criminally liable, but *wont do it to, say, banks or water companies?
Interesting.

Everyone getting pissy about the fact there was an alert and not the fact that wildfires have got so bad someone thought the alert was necessary is why we're fucked as a nation.

@apenkop@mstdn.social @RandamuMaki@mstdn.social @ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Traditionally, Binface (as well as other costumed candidates) tend to run in elections with wide fields and a strong Favourite knowing they're unlikely to win- Binface himself has generally run against the incumbent PM, for example.
The straight up capitulation and irresponsibility of the other major parties by pulling out has changed the equation slightly here, making Binface effectively the only real opposition.
Blame should be with the Conservatives for not fighting their corner, as the second place winner in the election proper and with Labour for pissing away two years of being in Government and not building up a strong enough offering to take a decent crack at the seat. (And Farage for being a pillock, obvs)
Even the LDs and Greens should be side-eyed a little here for not even trying to be the anti-Farage tactical lightning rod.

@simon_brooke@mastodon.scot Commentators still making the mistake of seeing Starmer as a neutral or pragmatist. He is neither of those things- he doesn't "lack" politics- his politics are those of the hard right.

There isn't one on this year's yet (linked) as we're still waiting on a handful of results, but last year's pretty much backs what you say.

@Geri@veganism.social Now, question is, will Labour swallow their pride and go into coalition with Plaid?
(And would Wales accept a coalition which contains a party they so comprehensively rejected?)

@futurebird@sauropods.win In the late 80s/early 90s, when television was new, the fourth channel to launch in the UK had its entire daytime schedule dedicated to programmes designed to be recorded for use in classrooms, each show preceded by this banger: https://youtu.be/_9NzqmlcJpc which you'd somehow be disappointed if the teacher didn't play all the way through before the programme.
Shows would even have workbooks teachers could send off for. The BBC equivalent even had counterpart computer games.
I'm not sure anything similar still exists, even with all of that there Internet we've got to play with now.

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us I wonder how well that will work considering what would be normally considered to be the largest part of that alliance- Labour- is already in power and people are underwhelmed?
Given a blue-Tory government as in 2024 then The Devil You Don't is actually an option. Given the red-Tory one we theoretically will have in 2029, it isn't.

@futurebird@sauropods.win Amazon have talked about using the data centres for regular cloud computing if AI doesn't take off, Microsoft also have running consumer cloud computing services that they could use the capacity for- and now they've tricked the taxpayer into paying to build them.
I'm not sure that wasn't the strat all along.

Now, let's see how she fucks it up. I'm betting on it only being applicable to businesses paying the most rent in a small handful of specific places (probably freeports) and/or the difference between rent paid and rent wanted has to be paid off in full as soon as the freeze ends.

So despite #Taskmaster Australia starting today, it won't be available on Channel 4 until July 1st, presumably because translation takes that long?
