They laughed, but that was okay, they were supposed to.

It was a performance, kind of a stand-up thing, with a very friendly audience. I recited some of my more humorous poems (as well as singing some songs). They went down well.

It was a challenge because every major character (maybe ten of them, I forget) had their own throughline and everything had to meet up in a single incident at the end. #writing #writingCommunity

But my first website - which is not actually public but handles my social media posting - has been finally upgraded. Now I just need to monitor it and ensure it's posting correctly.

Reveal the answer to yesterday's poll I was a bit mean because the song is "State of Independence" by Jon & Vangelis, and Jon Anderson is known for writing obscure lyrics so attempting to choose what sounded most right was going to be tricky. One third got it right. #eroticMusings Week 41. (March 8-14) Craft: Are you self-taught, or have you been trained or mentored in your craft? Would you like more? When I first started writing (50 years ago) I had no idea what I was doing but the "feel" of a story was in me from having read so much. I taught myself to play the guitar from a book. I wrote songs knowing what songs were supposed to sound like from listening to so many. My writing was honed by being journalist/editor for over 20 years, early on I suppose you could call the feedback "mentoring". Writing sex scenes was easy (they're just action scenes), but learning the sequence of increasing intimacy was a valuable tool I got from a blog. When it came to screenwriting, I read books, screenwriter blogs (especially Bill Martell). For 3D rendering I had my grounding in Computer Science, screenwriting, and movie making and I studied lighting to fill in that gap. #WritersCoffeeClub 3/3. On what are you unwilling to compromise? In general or just writing? I am not a perfectionist in writing - my passing grade is "definitely good enough". But in life generally? I am an extremely principled person, so quite a lot of things. But lets keep it simple (and vaguely connected to writing): generative AI. For me that's a hard no in every circumstance (and include coding AI). I block fans of it, apologists for it, or even "yes but it can be okay..." people. I understand how it works (I mean *really*) so I've always known it was guaranteed to generate shit and, at best, be mediocre. It is 100% destructive, there is no upside. (Even medical applications are problematic but for different reasons.) #writing #writingCommunity

In small bursts, yes. Mostly in my Maliha Anderson series since she is Anglo-Indian. Her native tongue is Tamil but there are bits of Hindi, also French.

Otherwise if most people in a scene are not speaking English, then it's all in English.

Of course I guess that depends on whether a person is using the actual definition of a plot hole ("an inconsistency in a novel that contradicts the established plot") as opposed to "I didn't like that, it's a plot hole" which is extremely common, unfortunately. #eroticMusings Week 40 (March 1-7) Studio: Where/how do you promote your erotica? Is it effective? How do you evaluate that? It's pretty hard (ahem). Mostly I promote in Bookfunnel promotions, although my erotica stories really aren't a good fit for most of them because my work is not kink-based. I measure it by any sales I get. I would add the series to my other regular promotions but I don't want to annoy folks with too many. And it needs to be better targeted. And this applies in ebooks too (also print books but it's less of a concern). Readers get lost when confronted with a page of solid text.

@Emmacox@writing.exchange Yes well, JKR's work is shit-ton of inconsistent crap. "Hand-me-down robes"? When they can literally conjure new ones, or repair/change old ones with the flick of a wand? Literally makes no sense. (Except the one thing mentioned in the article I reference isn't a plot-hole at all. How did Voldy get to the Mirror of Erised before Harry? Because he was the one that was going through the challenges just before Harry and the rest. D'uh.) I hate that woman.
