There is this famous quote that relates to "seeking forgiveness" vs "asking permission". I hear it quoted all the time and it has never felt right as a philosophy. Sure, it might be "easier" to ask forgiveness...but that doesnt mean that doing things that way is "better".
I have also seen how often people cite that quote, centered around "doing something bold", corpospeak that promotes bulldozong over others, or speaking positively about "taking the initiative"
Conversely, because I have never been comfortable with it... I know that my desire to ask questions and communicate beforehand is what makes people think I lack confidence. Couldnt be farther from the truth
Sure, it would seem like its easier to seek forgiveness after you have done The Thing..... but if we go by that logic than that sounds like someone asking-before-doing is actually *more* confident because they are doing "the harder thing".
Either way, consent is sexy. I cant help but operate on that philosophy, even if it labels me as "lacking confidence". Informed consent is even better.

@xoagray@tiggi.es 100%. The amount of times I see it being justified in bad faith, is exactly what keeps me asking permission or communicating my desire first before doing. I want to leave room for the other person to give me feedback... or just tell me " Id rather you didnt". If they have a concern, my ask is what opens up that line of dialogue. Gives them room to gove me insight and perspective.

@xoagray@tiggi.es Ill be honest, whenever I see someone use the "easoer to seek forgiveness than to seek permission" line in bad faith.... it gives me reason not to trust them. I say that even in cases where, before they used that line, I had no opinion on them before.
...whelp, now you have shown me that you are just another person who will sooner bulldoze over others to get what you want.

@cwebber@social.coop One thing I have found myself unpacking often (in these last few years) is the amount of onus shifting centered around beingg upfront. Sometimes just bringing up a concern sets people off. I have noted contexts and people that have turned nuetral statements into "she's overreacting", or mistaking the calm even toned statement as "making drama"

The next 2 weeks is gonna be full of trying to find a more permanent housing solution. Obviously when you lose your housing, everything is gonna get more expensive. So, those boosts yesterday really helped. Thanks everyone!

I havent run into issues with @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net yet, save for two websites that had display issues. I am currently trying Waterfox instead of Chromium. Using Librewolf to replace Firefox, since Mozilla started pulling shenanigans a couple years back.

vibe-code and maintenance. Technical debt. Conservatism
I was discussing the idea of how vibe coding is going to create alot of technical debt down the line. It is suggested that vibe-code is not quite able to be maintained down the line, simply because the "coder" who implements that code is likely not connecting with the code. When you code (without LLM/AI), there is some degree of connection with the code. You have some idea of what it does and what kinds of functions it is calling.... You have some "lay of the land" even if its partial.
So, when a vibe-coded project/website runs into problems or needs the code maintained, there is gonna be a good chance that no one will really have the familiarity or connection with code (overall, in general). So, hence my feeling about this very fucked up form of technical debt.
My partner responds that if they need to maintain the code , they will simply run it through the LLM. He is probably right because, when you are pretty deep in the AI world, it just seems the most go-to answer is "Ask [AI Agent]" or "run it through [AI/LLM]"
I then asked "but how will that work if either the price for tokens goes up, or the specific AI agent/company discontinues service?"
Him: "Oh, theyll just run it through another AI/LLM agent"
Me: Right....but wouldnt this kinda be degrading. Kind of like in the way when you use a copy machine, and then you take the copy it printed out and put that into the copier. As you copy the copy and then copy that copy, the overall quality of that copy degrades."
I think he kinda saw the point in my statement. As the conversation closed, he said "All of this is what makes you a technological conservative" . I think the idea is, the people that take on the stance of "AI is the future" and "Dont get left behind" stances are the Progressives.

@andypiper This is mostly my experience with alot of things. The GetHuman (gethuman.com) website was invented years ago, and I imagine its harder to actually get a human these days.
This problem even shows up in the job search use case. Too many phantom jobs and AI scrapers (among other things). So, i must verify the listing to see if its real (the job boards wont screen it and may even contribute to the fake job listings, l to pad up thier website content). Problem is everyone has outsourced their interfacing/point-of-contact to an AI secretary, phone tree or just set up some email void.

@mynameistillian@plush.city The footage was too fast to see but I kinda wondered if AGP might pop up. They have gone to a number of Scientology locations (incl the Twin Peaks compound by my house) .
I cant help but think that Scientology must look odd to people in other countries--whether people see it as a religion or just an odd cult.

@rolle@mementomori.social Firefox also pushed features like that. Yes, it was said that you can disable them but to me, I prefer to not use browsers with those features.
Aside from privacy concerns, there definitely isnt any disabling of Brendan Eich (co-founder)s hateful and anti-science politics, which he has made known where he is donating his money beyond just crypto stuff.
I do agree there arent many options for browsers these days. However, Brave is just isnt gonna sit right with me. I understand how those things may not bother other people.

Want to set up some Mediawiki templates for my VoxeLibre wiki. The info that is needed has a specific format that displays well for these types of games. Trouble is, I am only at the tip of the iceberg re: understanding Mediawiki templates and how they work
https://minecraft.wiki/
The block and item pages here would totally work for a VoxeLibre wiki.
