Happy International Lesbian Day, from VGAPride! Here's one of the many lesbian pride flags (the 5-stripe variant of the "sunset" flag).

It's always slightly annoying to me when there's keyboards that can switch between bluetooth and a separate proprietary protocol, because they always run into the problem of what to name that separate option.

• RF - Ah, so their Bluetooth isn't going over radio now?
• 2.4g - hey quick question: what frequency is that Bluetooth running at?

anyone remember back in the 90s before google when search engines were just dogshit and it was really hard to find anything, and what search engines there were would sometimes just give you completely unrelated pages full of gibberish? man, that was a terrible time for the web

I compiled 1992's POV-Ray 1.0 using gcc version 13.3.0. I just needed to change the extern to static in txtmap.c, do some weird file moving, and delete out a non-functional matherr function in gcc.c/unix.c. Not a huge amount of work, and it works just fine.

the electronics junk store (surplusgizmos dot com) said mini breadboards and WOW they were not kidding about them being mini.

ooh, you know you're in for a treat when an API mentions "JSON keep-alive"

evil idea: a password system that has tempo restrictions like it's "hunter2" but you have to type "hunt" quickly" and "er2" at hunt-and-peck speeds, or it will reject.

the wildfires were getting close so I tried to build a Corsi–Rosenthal Box and accidentally built an Einstein–Rosen Bridge instead

alternate universe where USB never caught on and we're recharging our iphone 18 over SCSI

Ahh yes, the 5 canonical widgets, Weather, Timer, Clock, Crossword, and Picture of the Day None other exist. None other can exist.

arg. I think my nice portable container just failed to work because I ran it with insufficient levels of nice portable containerization. no, you need to run linux inside linux inside linux inside linux, not just linus inside linux inside linux, that'll never work

I wonder if anyone has examined code reviewer performance with regard to perceived AI usage. like if you stick "co-authored by chat-gpt/claude" and some em-dashes in a merge request, do code reviewers miss more bugs because they're not reading as closely? or do they become more picky, complaining about things they wouldn't otherwise?

I know Mozilla is supposedly a non-profit and this is open-source software being developed by and for the community but I can smell Promotion-Seeking features. How do we make widgets? Is there even a plan for this to be expandable? or did you design a whole new browser feature only to toss five random-ass options in there?

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place I always figured Gravis licensed it to Philips, but I guess it could be the other way around

All the widgets are bundled together into a single NewTab extension: https://github.com/mozilla-firefox/firefox/tree/main/browser/extensions/newtab which is vibecoded and it's also the one that does the ads

I have one dual-socket USB charger, two USB-C cables, and two phones. if I connect cable 1 to phone 1 and cable 2 to phone 2, only phone 1 charges. but if I connect cable 1 to phone 2, cable 2 to phone 1, both phones charge.

Someone once suggested maybe adding sudoku or a nonogram and was immediately dropkicked out of the 8th story window of the MozillaCo HQ by Brendan Eich, CEO For Life

WHERE'S THE WIDGETS CATEGORY ON ADDONS.MOZILLA.ORG?

if I have a cool idea for a widget... how do I make it? do I need to put it into the firefox core? COME ON NOW

I guess plenty of platforms were still rocking pre-ansi compilers in the dark days of 1992

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place The CD-I came out in 1990, the PC gamepad in 1991, according to Wikipedia, but there's no info about who licensed who.

somehow I doubt how live this live agent is

actually I don't even understand what this code is doing foobar.c at the top has: extern void blah(int a, int b); and later around line 300 has static void blah(a, b) int a; int b; { // stuff here } why are you defining a function as extern, and then later defining it as static in the same compilation unit? GCC is naturally getting a little annoyed by this.

Bingo

ugh. I have confirmed by connecting to another device that my headphones are working fine so it's just this computer that's refusing to connect to both input+output.

so I guess they're a HID device?

oh I see why

when you reach the "maybe I'll fork the emulator..." stage, that's when you know your shitpost has scope creeped too far

changing "extern" to "static" made it compile. fuckin weird

and by "getting a little annoyed" I mean it's throwing a "static declaration of ‘blah’ follows non-static declaration" error

anyway office 97 is installing now

Anyone happen to have ROM dumps of a IBM Wheelwriter 3500 (or one, and the ability to dump them)? I'm helping someone repair one that has some corrosion damage on the main motherboard, and it looks like the eeproms may be lost.

so I try to go through the "customize my plan", which won't let me select no TV but I'm hoping I can remove it at a later spot, and it refuses to let me continue until I enter a credit card for my mobile phone account. apparently my direct debit info is fine for TV/Internet, but it needs a CC for my mobile phone account. I don't have a mobile phone account with them, though. Still, I need to enter a card for the 0$

clearly I just need to tell it I want to know how to do it from the website! "remove TV plan from website" and there it goes, telling me how to do it from a set-top box

and if I tell their AI chatbot that I want to remove a TV plan, it gives me some step-by-step instructions on how to do that on a set-top box I don't have and have never used

I should make a 2fa keyboard, where you have to fill out some kind of 2FA for each key you type or it won't be accepted and which one it'll accept per letter changes

@gloriouscow@oldbytes.space who up floozing their TV

@gloriouscow@oldbytes.space exactly. trans the drive

@cadey@pony.social yeah it took me a moment to even figure out the non-plural meaning

it was me 30 seconds ago but NOW it might be someone hacking my account! you know, someone who has access to my passwword and phone, but has lost it in the last 30 seconds

@gloriouscow@oldbytes.space does DOS notice (read: break) if your 360kb drive mysteriously becomes a 720kb drive when you stick a new disk into it?
