One of the main reasons people are seeking alternatives to Big Tech social media is the threat these platforms pose to democracy, particularly through algorithms that amplify polarization and hate speech. If we can't convince democratic institutions and influential public figures to join the #Fediverse, its potential to make political communication less dependent on Big Tech infrastructure will remain very limited. I don't blame the many journalists and civil society organizations that have chosen #Bluesky instead. They are important allies in defending democracy. That's one of the main reasons I believe bridges between these two decentralized spaces are so important. #Journalism #Democracy #BigTech #SocialMedia #LeaveX #JustBridge

In a bid to find fellow comrades at the local level, I will tomorrow be putting up a flyer looking like this, in targeted local buildings (the library, etc).

I would like some feedback. If you saw this would you:

  • Be interested in learning more?
  • Worry about this persons mental state*
  • Both!!!

*this might be a bad joke... sorry if anyone is offended.

On a more serious note - I am genuinely trying to find people locally who are interested in tackling Big Tech in a meaningful way, starting locally.

The flyer basically says:

  • are you fed up of Big Tech, tech bros and billionaires?
  • Put your energy to good use and help join the fight
  • An active online movement looking to talk solutions locally
  • Looking for people to help with outreach, organisation etc.

What do you think? Any changes?
