As the world mourns the passing of Marjane Satrapi, I cannot help but reflect on her declining of the French Legion of Honor last year, calling out the hypocrisy of accepting such an award from a government that systematically fails the very Iranian refugees they claim to honor.
Her action stands out even more today, just weeks after France announced a nearly billion euro surge to further militarize Channel border security, a harsh crackdown on the exact routes desperately used by migrants fleeing the Khamenei regime.
Satrapi stood as a beacon of solidarity to those fleeing oppression, and the world is duller today without her in it.

was paying my respects at the vincent price star on the hollywood walk of fame when a goth girl in a gorgeous black gown looked like she was waiting for me to move and i felt bad for hogging the merchant of menace all to myself so i stepped aside just to see her crouch down to take a selfie with the fucking jeff dunham star and then walk away

@MLE_online@social.afront.org Lmao funny enough I wore eye protection, it's the other 99.5% of my body that was missing PPE
And then I had to log onto Fedi and ask welders to slide into my DMs so I could show them what happened and ask if I should go to the hospital (fortunately the consensus was that I'd probably be fine in two weeks, and I was!)

I guess more specifically, the world‐ending event that everyone blames Avatar Korra for is her saving the world from total destruction by bending the entire planet around Sozin's Comet
But no one remembers this event because anyone who witnessed Korra doing this died along with her, and Pavi + Nisha uncovering the mystery of what Avatar Korra did will be a core focus of Seven Havens

When you love a Ukrainian, the silence while they sleep becomes the loudest sound in the world.
You refresh every news source like a lifeline, just to know if they'll wake up to your next “good morning”.

@MLE_online@social.afront.org Yes because I am a crazy person that spent 3 minutes angrily redrafting the space between the faces and the hands before giving up because the lack of proper emoji kerning grates me :google_emoji_kitchen_tired_face_and_tired_face_mashup:

Korra's in her mid‐forties when the world ends
Sozin's Comet comes once every 100 years and last came when Aang was 12 (give or take a century lol)
He dies at 66, 54 years after the comet passed (66 − 12 = 54)
Korra is 21 at the end of her series, 75 years after the comet passed (54 + 21 = 75)
That leaves 25 years until Sozin's Comet comes around again, and so I think Korra's 46 or so when she dies, which lines up with how she looks in the Seven Havens trailer, her hair just starting to turn gray

The world-ending event with the giant tidal waves and storms in the sky is Sozin's Comet crashing into Earth due to spiritual imbalance because of the events of LoK Book 2

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange I am genuinely very interested in reading the Salt and Iron Concords and would very much appreciate your translation of it
Also, how did you arrive at “concords” as a translation for “論”? I feel your translations usually favor the vernacular, so it's not often I have to look up a word you chose
