Most people describe a good book as one "you can't put down." And, often, that's the case: riveting engagement.
But, hear me out: sometimes a really good book is so impactful, or grabs you so hard, you actually do need to put it down, and come back to it later. Those are the truly rare ones.

This picture brings me so much joy. My godson and the man who stepped up to be a fantastic father. That's what "stepfather" should mean.
I'm not saying I come from an uncoordinated family*, but every single one of my dad's shirts included the memory of coffee.
And I have to brush my teeth shirtless, so I don't ruin a top with errant toothpaste.
My mom once broke her foot because she tripped over a garden hose, walking on the driveway. The Hospital: "Back again?"
*I am absolutely saying this.
This is so cool! A friend has made a donation to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in honor of my upcoming birthday. I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate. 😃

@catsalad@infosec.exchange This is hilarious. She talked to me, in her usual LOUD way, but *not* on camera. I tried four times. She must have been saying "You aren't putting ME on the interwebs, hoo-man!"
Never apologize for having a strong emotional response to a character in a story. It's not that they're fictional that matters, but rather the real feelings that they create.
I don't need to tell you that things are stressful, all over the world, and no one is exempt. For quite a while, I could not connect to any kind of exit from it, other than keeping busy and watching streaming content.
Then, my love of reading finally came back, like someone throwing you a life preserved and hauling you in the boat, after you've been alternating between treading water and dead man's float* for hours and hours in the cold water and you can't feel your legs anymore.
That's my "something" the thing keeping me from tearing my hair out, and running naked, screaming, right down Main Street.
What I'm saying here is that you've got to find your "something." Maybe it's taking the kids or the dogs to the park. Maybe it's listening to music, especially the music you loved way back when. Maybe it's creating something with fabric, paint, woodwork, clay, or writing. This world will try to consume us. That "something" you have is your shell of protection so the world doesn't eat you alive.
*this is a real technique that can save your life. The Red Cross teaches it in a drownproofing course that I had to take to get certified in canoeing when I was twelve.
I never thought about it, but this is so spot-on:
"None of us are writers because we fell in love with our own writing; we fell in love with other people’s writing, and we keep on falling in love with it." ~alix e. harrow

Today's look brought to you by the people who wish they made Garanimals for adults.
Yes, it was hard to find dinosaur bell-bottoms. Thank you for asking.
Tomorrow is the Big Book Sale at the Fayette County Library, south of metro Atlanta. Last time, I didn't know anything about it, and came upon it by chance, ten minutes before it was over. This time, I'm ready. Dollah, Dollah, Dollah BILLS, Y'all! 💵📚💃💸
Here's one thing that might help some of you who, like me, don't have a ton of upper body strength. I do this exercise every time I go to the gym. I cannot manage a traditional push-up. So, I do wall push-ups, with slow and steady controlled movement.
#ThreeGoodThings
1) I'm back in the gyml I hear it's good for you? Ha!
Mostly I'm desperate for anything to help chronic pain. I've decided that the only way this routine will work is to go early in the morning.
2) One of my favorite* authors, Sharma Shields (author of The Cassandra) has a new novel coming out in March of next year, titled Duckling: A Novel, and there's already a giveaway to enter for it! I'm so excited.
3) Oh, that first one counted as two. 😉
*okay, I have like 200 favorite authors, but really, this author's writing just sparkles, even when tackling tough subjects we don't talk about, emotionally eviscerating the reader, or just exploring both the limits of empathy and the nature of humanity. I feel like a lot of readers missed that.
My cousin is home from the hospital. They say part of her problem with fainting was that her thyroid tanked, but that her biggest problem was that she was drinking too much plain water.
I know that people think that all the emphasis on electrolyte replacement is just hype and marketing, and some of it is, but you do need to replace what you lose by sweating, especially when it's so hot. That's why people take salt tablets in the desert. So, now she understands. She's ordered foods rich in potassium and magnesium as well.
J just returned from a motorcycle ride of 230 miles round trip in this heat. I cannot imagine. But, here's the cool part: the ladies she rode with decided to stop at a speakeasy. Did Y'all know those were coming back? It's kind of cool. You start in a T-shirt shop, and if you know the password, you are led to the secret entrance to the speakeasy. From inside the bar, you can see, via a two way mirror, all the people who are wandering around the T-shirt shop. There's also a rooftop restaurant. I think it's such a cool concept, bringing back those prohibition era cool clubs.
Me: *accidentally types perpenducukslar instead of perpendicular*
Autocorrect: purple ducks?
Me: No, just let me fix this.
Autocorrect: Oh, you wanted purpose dick?
Me: Look, I got this, just stip.
Autocorrect: sippy purple dick?
Me: God No. Stop.
Autocorrect: oh you want to start a new paragraph?
Me: What? Why would you think that? I'll just use the autosuggest, and wait, why would you move the options around right when I'm trying to selict . . .
Autocorrect: Did you mean sell lick all-purpose purple dick?
Me: Just ducking delete everything.
Autocorrect: Got it. Back to purple ducks.
Folks on a #GLP1 do you feel like the medicine has rewired your emotions somewhat? With an increased dosage, I'm much more agitated and impatient, quick to anger. Not sure how to combat it, except to be more aware.
What?!? It's Ben's Birthday! This should be a global day off, with cultural traditions that accompany the celebration of BenDay.
The day begins with a costumed fun run. Everyone who participates, even if they don't finish, gets a T-shirt with that year's winning BenRun design. There are the exchanges of presents, the bigot piñatas, treasure hunts to find the secret hidden voucher for a free pair of high end trainers. A parade, of course, music, dancing, a huge buffet of the most interesting and amazing vegan and vegetarian food, all leading up to an appearance of Ben himself, sheepishly waving to the crowds (mostly televised, with only one group fortunate enough to see him onstage in person), saying "All this fuss, just for me? Please, just be a good ally, do good in this world, and what else do we say?" Ben cups his hand to his ear, as the crowd shouts their part in this well-known call and response: "We suffer no fools!" Then huge applause as Ben leaves the stage and joins his family waiting in the wings, wearing their best BenFest attire, ready to head to the traditional feast.
A variety show takes over the stage, with the transworld dance team headliners leading everyone in beloved BenSongs. The crowd is moving and grooving as they all sing along. They all know the words. No one is left out. Everyone is included in this celebration. It's Ben a beautiful day. Dance Party Time! ⭐️🍰🎶🎈🎉🎁🎂🕺

I saw something today that neatly explains why arguing facts or reality with MAGA doesn't work, and I don't know who said it first, but:
"You can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into."
Okay, so I still have a belly, as most women my age do, HOWEVER, just for fun, I tried on my '90s Lee Rider "relaxed fit" size 10 blue jeans, and they fit! Holy Hell. I wouldn't say that it was necessarily a "comfortable all day" fit, but I *could* wear them. I didn't think I'd ever be able to wear them again. Almost donated them. This means those Cello jeans in crazy colors from Lizard Thicket are also a possibility. I don't think that brand is even around today.
Do I miss pancakes, waffles, cereal, pizza, chicken wings, chips, French fries, nachos, bacon, sausage, desserts, and BREAD, HELLS YEAH I do. But, this shot is so expensive, and I just can't see sabotaging any progress. Plus, protein bars and light ice cream brands have come a long way.
Anyway, thank you for reading this. I wanted to share a little win. 😃 And for other GLP-1 users: keep up the good fight.
The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances, by Glenn Dixon. My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fairly short read, at just over 214 pages. Cozy dystopian version of "The Brave Little Toaster." Not bad, but I wouldn't go out of your way.
Current Read: Fishbone Cinderella, by Elizabeth Lim. I love myth, magic, and good writing, and this novel has all three. It is a delight so far.

@Wallflower@beige.party I think my weather app has given up the booze, and taken up hallucinogenics. It predicts nothing but heat, hour after hour, with one hour of rain between 10 and 11 PM . Sure, Buddy. And what else do you see? A walrus driving a boat, and talking to a monkey in a party hat? Okay.
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Here's a little more information. I'm suspicious of the veracity of the viral post, especially since it contains geographical errors.
The big problem is that when there is a lack of information, anything can fill the vacuum.
It is odd timing, however, that Russia and China just completed infectious disease protocol drills.

@mattbors@mstdn.ca Yay!
I feel like Be Gay, Do Comics gets more love, but honestly, it was Life Begins at Incorporation that made me a fan. That satire still bites hard, even now.
I hope you have a successful and fun weekend, meeting all kinds of interesting people.
