@stux@mstdn.social I paypal-ed some cash a minute ago. I don't mind a bit helping cover admin's costs and I bet most other Mastodonians don't either. Just let us know (as you have this time) when you need it!

Fledgling crows: Day 42. A quiet week with just a few sightings, usually in the evening when the whole family heads to bed in the sycamore tree. Both parents are trying to tempt the gruesome twosome into flying higher; Itchy can easily zoom up to the top of their tree but Dozy would rather sit on the garage roof and wait to be fed!

@RickiTarr@beige.party Heck, these days you don't even have to have a pulse to be in politics. Just ask Mitch McConnell! Oh, wait, you can't...
Fledgling crows: Day 28. The gruesome twosome are pretty much out and about these days, we don't see them very often although we do often hear them talking with the parent birds. Here's Itchy sitting in the tree behind our garden fence preening himself and hoping for a meal from Ma or Pa. Lower righthand corner of the shot is the rose trellis where we first saw them sitting a month ago.

Fledgling crows: Day 20. Rumours of a fledgling loss yesterday turned out to be untrue. After finding a tragic small pile of feathers yesterday morning, we figured the not vocal one (Dozy) had been snatched by a hawk. Then, late in the afternoon, Dozy turned up on the hedge none the worse for wear! The vocal one, Itchy, seems pleased as well. No idea what happened or what the other bird might have been, poor thing.

@RickiTarr@beige.party I was feeling the whisper of the ax on the collective necks of ordinary citizens early in the mango moron's first term. But a lot of other people obviously weren't paying attention. You're over-reacting. (Not!!!)
Kids don't play "skip rope" any longer, do they? It was mostly little girls in my day (when wooly mammoths still roamed the earth) and we had the most gruesome skip rope rhymes.
"Doctor, doctor, will I die?
Yes, my dear, and so shall I.
How many carriages will I have?
One, two, three..."
"Cinderella sat on a pin.
How many inches did it go in?
One, two, three..."

@RickiTarr@beige.party My mom and dad both could cook pretty good even though they both worked. She would fix a big pot of red beans, bake a pile of cornbread, then we'd have leftovers for a week. Funny thing is, the beans would taste better each following night! She could also make a ham or beef joint last a week. Sometimes on the last day of the joint, she'd strip the bone and make tacos. 🌮 I don't think it cost much to live on leftovers, they just knew how to cook.

@scottrochester@mastodon.social @hayesstw@c.im I drove a manual for years in the US. Now I'm in the process of getting my UK driving license and will go for the "automatic" option for the practical test. I can shift in my sleep with my right hand but my left hand just doesn't have the muscle memory to deal with it.

@davey_cakes It's all about the money, innit? Big tech has bet the farm on this AI crap, they desperately need customers so they're trying to force us to use the stuff. No thanks, I'll do my own thinking and writing, flawed as they are.

@RickiTarr@beige.party What a good idea! Wouldn't it be lovely if all the "compete to exist" types could be shunted off into a holodeck instance while the rest of us relax for a while?

@RickiTarr@beige.party When I was a kid, the ranch across the road from my gran was called High Lonesome, they had a pet bison in their front pasture. I won't elucidate how I know, but I can confirm as an eye witness the veracity of those buffalo facts!

@RickiTarr Love this! This is exactly why I get such a kick out of the new Tim Walz vid that's making the rounds where he's showing you how to fix a 70s era cruise control device in his old car. He obviously has a passion for making old cars run and, not coincidentally, is also a decent person with a pleasant sense of humor. You ever notice that the incel types and the ammo-sexuals have no sense of humor? I guess there's nothing funny about being 42 and still living in your mom's basement.

@fractalkitty@mathstodon.xyz I adore wrens but boy, do they ever have a mouth on 'em! The resident wren in our back garden always gives me an ear full if I happen to disturb her while she's busy!

@Asbestos @RickiTarr I think you're onto something there! tRump is looking more and more like someone's loony uncle that you don't want to sit next to at Thanksgiving but he had to be invited because family. A very dangerous loony uncle, I'll grant you. If Walz can lure away the classic car crowd, so much the better!

@heidilifeldman@mastodon.social For those outside of New Mexico who are unfamiliar with SE NM, in a blue state, it is deepest darkest red, complete with coal rollin' pickup trucks flying trump flags and all the rest of it. The area will desperately need people to protect voters trying to get to the polls, especially if those voters aren't lily white.
