Dexter was very unhappy we went to the garden centre without him today, so now he's asleep on my arm to ensure I can't leave again.

@neil@mastodon.neilzone.co.uk I've seen this used a few times by other password managers - Wayland's security posture prevents apps from typing into each other reliably, so when you want your password manager to autotype (because you can't paste into a window for whatever reason) someone came up with the horrible hack of rdp-ing into your own machine to get around that. I *thought* people had come up with better fixes now, but maybe I'm wrong.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I am incredibly jealous of that nest. (And I spent 40 quid on a shitty indoor aerial that cuts out if anyone walks between the living room and the kitchen, but it's worth it not to have the goals spoiled on social media before I see them)

Sabastian Sawe's performance in the London Marathon today was incredible. Ever since the 2 hour mark was broken in controlled conditions, it was obvious it would only be a matter of time before it happened in a race, but I certainly thought that barrier would hold for a couple more years. For three runners today to go inside the old world record, and two of them sub-2 hours is an insane achievement.

I went for a nice 10k run this evening, and at the end of it decided to see how far I could run at the average pace they'd managed for 42.2km. I consider myself quite fit, but that pace is basically a sprint for me, I couldn't even make it to 100m before I was gassed. Truly unbelievable running.

@jerry@infosec.exchange you kidnap roughly 10-20 million children, and force them to memorise a sequence of zeros and ones on pain of not recieving any gruel tomorrow if they get one wrong. You'd think that it'd be more expensive than an a pair of 20TB HDD in raid-1, but you'd be wrong...

@jerry@infosec.exchange to get political for a moment, this is why US cars coming over to Europe scare me :p in the UK I pay far more for fuel (I drive a diesel honda civic, which some googling converts to roughly $6.45 per US gallon at the moment) but fully filling my car only costs ~$90, and I get around 600 miles from that tank of fuel...

@ojensen@hachyderm.io I'm not an expert on Signal, but from what I understand, the signal server has no idea what the lifetime of a message is, and until it's decrypted on the device, it's indistinguishable from a non-disappearing message (which is one of the reasons you need to be really careful with multiple linked devices, as they can easily become a security issue).

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io @david as a counterpont though, in the UK though, that's likely not true; given (functionally, if not legally) to get the government grant you end up with an air-to-water heat pump to use the existing radiators, which can't do cooling, because our government policy has never met a good solution it can't short cut into a bad solution ;p

@firstyear@infosec.exchange As an absolute passkey fanboy, I... Don't disagree with anything here. The tech is fundamentally a great idea, the *implementations* make me tear my hair out. Today's hate is for LinkedIn, who will let me enroll a passkey (on a yubikey) in Firefox, but then won't let me log in using it (and won't even display the button to try the passkey log in) And on top of that, they don't let you name the passkeys, so I just have 'passkey 1 - Firefox on Linux' and 'passkey 2 - Firefox on Linux', so if I ever lose one of these keys, rotating the correct one is going to be 'fun'.

Been a while since I blogged, so it's time for the latest installment in "Edd massively over-complicates things with SSH certificates" This time, a post about how I got rid of the need to create a new sub account on my #Hetzner Storage Box every time I wanted to create a new VM and back it up with #Borg. Definitely easier ways to have achieved it, but it shows of the versatility of ssh certificates, and #StepCA that's powering them in my home lab.

@cstross@wandering.shop My current intent is to get the audiobook whenever it drops on libro.fm, but I wanted to ask (if you don't mind the question and have the data to answer) does people buying books on their with credits work out ok for the author? It's always felt strange just how much of a discount the audiobook-credits system on there (and audible I guess) grants.
