This document specifies the well-known URI /.well-known/button.json, which describes a web site's "buttons". Buttons are usually 88x31 pixel images representing the web site with text, logos, artwork, and animations. /.well-known/button.json files facilitate sharing buttons between web site owners and alleviate issues commonly encountered when doing so. By utilizing a standardized, machine-readable format, automated tools can also utilize the provided information.

and that concludes my phone screen repair. after *really* breaking the phone screen yesterday at about 10am, i’m happy to announce that with @iFixit@mastodon.social ’s guides and next-day shipping, i was able to get a really fast turnaround on this 100€ mistake. (also one of the more stressful things i have recently done.)

google sucks, but at least they sell you replacement parts for their phones at reasonable prices.

starting an uptime-miku progress thread because i can! today i finished rewriting the login logic to use password-authenticated key exchange (PAKE), namely OPAQUE with Argon2id, SHA-2 and Ristretto255. This was obviously inspired by @kora@chaos.social telling me about PAKE which despite my general crypto knowledge had never crossed my path. so now logins are super secure! it was actually surprisingly easy to get this working, the opaque_ke crate has copy-paste-able examples for login and registration.

@joshix @arch @lunareclipse 1) because authenticity is important. data URIs don't provide a lot of utility in my opinion, and restricting ourselves to only HTTPS simplifies clients. 2) I don't like this feature either, and normal caching mechanisms are also explicitly encouraged. The point of this hash is that the client can calculate it itself. 3) Not yet, I want to write a utility script for my website for this soon.

@chaos in effect yes, that would be one of the points. if you are doing generic linuxy things nobody cares, but if you’re trying to build user software, unfortunately there is no other way. (also containers don’t solve *bsd, where cross-compilation is often an option)

@chaos right, but at least some of these things can be solved by “just a ci runner”:

forgejo does scheduled jobs
forgejo does event-based jobs for a repo, e.g. issues and PRs, releases
forgejo does manually run actions
actions/cache is not great, but you can use multiple of them, and it’s very configurable in terms of directories and keys. the major issue is missing (read-only) fallback caches, which gitlab solves much better
