About a decade ago I wanted a cool fabric with a feminist scifi theme and I was not too fussed about quality. So I made this collage of old scifi covers with women. I have never used it (first found no pattern, then was annoyed at the quality of the fabric). I have decided to use it to test a pattern. I have to mix it in with some other fabric because I do not have enough for the (very fabric-hungry) pattern. But I wanted to show the fabric as a whole to people first. I kind of love it. #sewing

@jlj@fosstodon.org Always pockets. And I never thought I would say this, but these are almost too big. Reaching my phone at the bottom of the pocket takes some reaching, and there is room for at least two of the Le Guin.

Imagine coming up with a nifty pottery design, and then you show it to some people, maybe sell it (or they do), and it spreads to neighbouring regions, and 5000 years later the whole period in which you live is dated based on your nifty pot.

Read Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian’s Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queernesss of Nature as my book queering nature and science. It is an odd book, located where self-help meets mycology. This comes with some content warnings. #bookstodon

The thing that may actually drive down my consumption (books, it is books) is that every time I order something online I get messages in triplicate for every stage of the delivery process. From "something may soon be picked up by some mail service" to "you just picked up your mail".

Read Gogu Shyamala’s excellent Father May Be an Elephant and Mother Only a Small Basket, But… as my Dalit work that is not memoir or poetry. Captivating short (or little) stories, though I could have saved myself a lot of googling distraction if I had looked for the informative section in the back. #bookstodon

Read Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera as my book where the character’s gender is not fixed (here through a series of reincarnations), and I think this is the wildest ride I have been on. Delightfully so. I know some things passed me by, but while you need to be awake, this is amazing. #bookstodon

Read Bernardine Evaristo’s Lara as my novel in verse. She has a poetic streak when writing prose, too, but this was lovely! A deep dive in the times and places that make up a family of disparate cultures, violation, prejudice and love. And sometimes just being a person alive in the world. #bookstodon
