Alarming recent development in these parts...thugs attacking "HMOs" (houses of multiple occupancy) in nearby Salford;
In property terms, any houseshare where 3 or more people don't know each other and aren't jointly responsible is an HMO - which is how I lived for many years after moving to Manchester for work. So why the violence? Well, what's *really* going on here is an escalation of the racist anti-immigration activity that has gathered pace in recent years.

I was recently sent to a workshop by my day job on the new AI-first (-only?) development methodology they want us to switch to. I can't help but think that a system that has LLMs generating reams of code but puts the responsibility on engineers to understand all of it feels like a bit of a con - and unsafe. Like a software version of the idea that humans should be immediately ready to take over from self-driving cars when they can't cope with an emergency.

My goodness, I'm so tired of AI. Every presentation, every department meeting, I'm being told how much we need to lean into AI, how much we need to make it a part of our regular routines. There's almost no other topic of conversation.
I do worry that we're absolutely about to fully surrender our thinking to it, right before the industry-wide job losses really bite, and the environmental damage starts to rack up elsewhere. Saying so, unfortunately, isn't popular.
We're going to Curacao next month! 🙌🏿
Of course I've been looking at info online, but wondered if any of the Mastodon nation had any tips or recommendations? I think we'll be trying snorkeling and scuba, and I'll definitely be looking for good street and scenery photo opportunities, plus great food of course! Also, if anyone knows where I might find used local records for sale, I'd love to come back with some souvenir wax!

Random gaming confessions/opinions
- I have never enjoyed a text adventure. In fact, I'm all but convinced that no-one else has either.
- I think the Street Fighter series is great but I've never been much good at any of them
- The Tekken series is way better than SF
- I've never played a GTA game past the very first, the top-down one
- All things considered, the Switch may be my all-time best gaming purchase. Eight-year-old me could never have imagined such a thing 🙂
Having to buy prescription sunglasses is so annoying - they're expensive up-front, and then they need re-lensing as your eyes change, instead of just being something you can keep. I'm currently in a dispute with a company who sent a pair back with a bent frame *and* a chip on a lens.
Have also chosen a new pair for a different style - and explicitly ruled out Ray-Ban because I don't want to be associated with those weird Meta glasses!
