@mitchellh@hachyderm.io I have a client that used Claude's API capability to pull some info out of the system and regurgitate it as a webpage. They were "blown away" by it. Never mind that I, the consultant and subject matter expert, already provided a detailed report months ago that they completely ignored. They then asked if we had Claude and if not that we should seriously consider getting it. I think the word that came to mind was that it felt denigrating.

@mariyadelano for my one little thing I'm going to save this and send it to people later. I sent out texts to friends and family asking them to call Congress asking for impeachment. What I've noticed is people's threshold is basically one thing and then if you follow up again they get upset. So this will be my next move.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social not if but when. Even if "AI" somehow works out it will mean a huge shift in the workforce where there is NO plan in place. If it doesn't work out (which is more likely) then the government under Trump is 100% going to bail out these huge corporations. Everyone will simultaneously blame each other and claim they've done nothing wrong. There will certainly also be scapegoats. In either event, we all lose.

@threatresearch@infosec.exchange in a timely turn of events I recently became aware of @climatetown@mastodon.scot (Climate Town) on YouTube and Rollie produced a Right to Repair video which is very approachable. https://youtu.be/NG-lLt5X3Rs
I don't know if that's something legislators would actually watch and respond to.

Take the untrained guys with guns that also have masculinity and anger issues desperate, then put them in an airport and tell them they are in charge. With 24 hours notice no less.
Also keep in mind many POCs and immigrants WORK at airports and have to go through security to do their jobs.
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to see people being tackled walking off of planes. I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect ICE assaults someone that works for TSA who is going on or off shift. But reality can sometimes throw a fastball and give us an even crazier outcome, so I'm not placing my bets yet.

@thibaultmol@en.osm.town @nixCraft@mastodon.social yeah, that may be the case for Motorola now. If GrapheneOS is responsible for the OS then it shouldn't be an issue for the devices they cover. I mean, we don't know what the division of labor will be, maybe Motorola has some other structural issues. Based on what I've seen of graphene though, they're a pretty buttoned up organization. I would be surprised if they chose poorly.

My thoughts on today's protest.
- I wish people were less aggressively weird at protests. A lot of people I see out at protests are almost a parody of themselves. I don't think it helps the cause by dressing like it's Halloween, we want to be taken seriously.
- I wish more speakers were better at public speaking. It's certainly not true of everyone speaking, and I think people still have important things to share. Those chosen to speak should have clear messaging to provide the greatest impact.
- Likewise, organizers should bring energy and know how to work a crowd.
- The turnout was not great, at least when I was there. We can do better!
- I understand there are a million terrible things happening. However, the protests should remain focused on only a few primary issues. If we learned anything from Occupy Wall Street it's that we cannot allow the message to become diluted or be co-opted by other interests.
I know I'm being cynical, but I was a little disheartened by what I saw today.

@TagYourToe@mastodon.social They want to be re-elected and they want campaign funding. Do you think politicians should operate without any kind of feedback while in office? Am I misunderstanding you? I think our representatives in our government should also be praised for their good deeds but that doesn't carry as much weight in the world we live in.
When I spoke with the operator at Dianna Degette's office, they reiterated that the Congresswoman has been against DHS from the beginning and has been consistently fighting funding of ICE. It was a congenial and productive if brief conversation. You don't need to call and be vitriolic. Just let them know what your opinion is and be done with it.

@TagYourToe@mastodon.social if dems weren't confirming appointees and if they hadn't caved on other things then maybe. We have to keep the pressure on them. I'd rather not find out after they gave in that I could have called. I really don't see a downside to reminding them they work for us. What's the worst case scenario, they give in to spite us?

@reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world I agree that isn't how it works. It would be a change but I believe that it's not outside the realm of possibility. Donald Trump and Stephen Miller are big fans of finding emergency powers and using novel legal theories. I think it's high time for governors and state legislators to respond in kind.
The money would go to the state instead of the fed, not stay in a business' account. States have a lot of power, especially when in compact. I think it would only take California and New York doing something like this to really have an effect. Other states joining those two would kneecap the fed.
From my perspective as a business owner it's really just a matter of depositing funds into a different account than the treasury.
Will it be easy? No, surely not. There would be a lot of difficulty in communication, legislation, and even with state's ability to collect taxes there would be work needed to set up collection.
I think this is the response needed for what is turning into the taxation without representation of our generation. We can't sit around and say things can't be done.

@reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world yeah, I mean it's purely academic at this point. I've seen other people saying the same thing online though so I would wager the idea is being kicked around. I think the threat needs to be made first because red states (whether they will admit it or not) are reliant on blue states for those sweet tax dollars. In my mind it would work out pretty similar to the redistricting votes are playing out.

@TagYourToe@mastodon.social and this is why I'm an independent. Democrats are mostly Republicans by a different name. Keep blindly supporting a team that practically refuses to play in the game, see how far that gets you. I hope you enjoy all the influence that AIPAC money is buying within the caucus.

@TagYourToe@mastodon.social asking people to urge their reps to not cave on a bad deal is such a grave sin, oh my. If dems keep capitulating they should not be rewarded for it. It sounds like you're of the opinion we should just let them do whatever once they're in office because it would be bad optics to hold them to any kind of standard. Democrats need to have some actual party unity and learn the meaning of the word opposition. They're pretty good at virtue signaling, sending letters, and ceding ground at the moment. Dems should be against everything the Republicans are doing, no compromises. Until they learn that, the Republicans will continue walking all over everyone. Their whole MO has basically been to make a show of resisting and then throw their hands up after they've given in saying "we tried nothing and we're all out of ideas". I want them to succeed but they won't do that by operating the same way they always have. It's a different world now.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online I have some counterpoints:
- webapps can fill a gap where there is no other option.
- webapps can be better than their native equivalent. 2a. webapps can be more streamlined with less extra BS (I'm talking about less bloat in terms of features which some may argue is a downside).
- webapps are pushing what can be done in/by browsers. Not having them isn't going to change tracking.
- many "apps" are just Chrome with a native interface.
- native apps are arguably more of a catfish for tracking data than websites or webapps, you just can't tell because you can't profile what they're doing.
- maybe the most simple one, I personally like the ability to eliminate the browser chrome and make a page a first class citizen on my OS.
- from a development perspective, going web native could be a boon depending on what your app does. I think that ties back into pushing the boundaries of browsers as well.

@TagYourToe@mastodon.social counterpoint: if they keep working with Republicans, it proves that to be the case. They need to earn my vote. They don't get elected simply because there's a 'D' next to their name. It's a simple calculus, either they show resistance or they lose their seats. I hope those seats are filled by people that give a damn. They need to stop playing political games for imaginary points.

An example of a Democrat who is a smooth talker but who is apparently also in AIPAC's pocket. There are plenty of other examples and it goes beyond AIPAC. Why would we reward Swalwell for this? I don't know about you, but I don't want people in politics that are basically just paid actors.
