#trans folks and parents of teen trans, I would love some help. Our kid (18) is trans, and will be potentially starting Estrogen soon. We love and support our kiddo, 100%. That is not a question. As parents tho we are in uncharted territory for us. My wife admitted last night she is worried they might "change" somehow, which she fully calls anxiety, but it would be helpful to know more. Any supportive parents of trans kids willing to share experiences?

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social our previous cat was a stickler for Bedtime. She would let us know when that was and be very insistent that we get right to it! Right now we have 3 cats, and they resulting turf wars and chaos does not allow for much in the way of consistency. But if we get up and head for the bedroom, Raven will always trot along with us.

Ended up changed the name of my sci fi miniatures skirmish game to Omega Salvage. A video game with a very similar name and theme contacted me about it, and I made the change. They were first, and there was definitely chances of confusion, so I felt I should. This is what happens when you release software that cannot reliably produce the same results from a set of data, call it a feature, and pretend it's alive. This is what happens when you know all that, and still put it in the loop with full permissions and no guardrails. It's not rogue. It's bad software. And I say this having actually used it for work myself.

@juergen_hubert There was a moment when the tech could have benefits millions of people, but tech-bros are not in that business, they are in teh business of making themselves stupidly rich with no morals. I worked at an AI company until recently, and have some in depth hands on experience with AI. It has some legit, and very interesting uses. But techbros/greed has ruined it for everyone, and the damage it's doing makes it really difficult to justify it at all.

Not sure if lots of people know this, but Humble Bundle has a slightly hidden setting on the amount that goes to charity.

You have to select it before you hit check to take effect. The defaults (IMO) are a bit weak for the charity so I tend to up the amounts for charity.

I still like the Humble deals, but I always like to give more to the cause.

#ttrpg folks. I'm trying to write a one-shot zine of "tragic superheros". The base premise is an old comic called "Strikeforce Morituri" where the heroes are given powers to fight an alien invasion, but the process will kill them within the year.

This idea has been percolating for years in my head, so I'm building it.

I'm stuck on finding a good open source system to use as a basis. I've looked at Mork Borg, SNAP, Blades in the Dark.

Any better suggestions to build my game on?

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange I worked as a hiring manager at a video game company for 11 years, and the bias you see in AI is is literally the same human bias trained into it from the standard hiring practices. Humans were just more subtle about it. I had an employee, one of my top guys, who applied first under his first name which was Hawaiian in source and unusual. Rejected. He resubmitted same resume, using middle name of David, accepted, interviewed and hired. This was human HR... I hated it.

3D Modelling friends, have you heard of BumpMesh? the guy behind CNC Kitchen created it, and it's been REALLY useful in my modelling lately.

It's basically doing one thing, and that's the thing that I've been missing! Yeah, you can get blender to do it, if you know how how, which I don't.

The weird "I'm your friend and you're doing great" type of language from it has always creeped me out. Like some tech bro with feelings of inadequacy built it so it could validate him or something. Also, might help people thinking it's actually "intelligent" which it's not. And will never be. It's a spreadsheet with attitude.

@jenniferplusplus@hachyderm.io I look at it like the blockchain, and NFT crazes we went through. Those genies are still out of the bottle but it doesn't occupy too much attention any more. I worked at an AI startup for a while (I needed a job) and the CEO cited both those periods for his current company. I think AI might have more staying power as it can be used (for good and bad) by regular folks, but I think the bubble is busting open soon enough. That job I had showed me that the market isn't there.

@glyph@mastodon.social as QA, not a dev, I found the coding part somewhat useful in my last job. Before getting laid off of course. I found it interesting. I built stuff I never would have been able to before. However. I'm QA so I didn't trust the output, and the big things they all gloss over. The first response IS magic. But every step past that takes 3 times as long to get to a real, complete product. Longer if the complexity goes up. Build a proto app in a day. Debug for 10 or more... Much more.
