Mullvad VPN's CEO has been caught supporting Sweden's far-right political party. In fact, the CEO is the party's largest individual financial donor. I would suggest IVPN ( @ivpn@mastodon.social ) as an alternative. iVPN stays out of politics, except when advocating for privacy and opposing surveillance. That said... When I previously pointed out that Proton VPN's CEO was a strong supporter of Donald Trump, or that Proton falls under U.S. jurisdiction, a group of people tried to perform mental gymnastics to defend Proton. They claimed that any alternative was no better or insisted that alternatives failed to meet whatever qualifying buzzwords they chose. Today, I see those same types of people doing the same thing — defending Mullvad VPN while attempting to dismiss and degrade any suggested alternative. The Fediverse has a group of politically right-leaning individuals who have learned not to express their support for fascism as directly, but instead to do so more passively in the hope of influencing others. Standing up for companies led and owned by fascists while claiming "that's different" when comparing a company with the people leading it (Brave Browser, for example) is one way they encourage others to ignore what happens behind the scenes. Talking down alternatives that are not associated with fascism, or claiming they are no better for vague "reasons" (insert random excuse here), is another way these individuals encourage people to turn a blind eye. No matter what alternative I or anyone else suggests, the important thing is that you choose one that does not support fascism. The simple fact is that the Gaza Verified Scam Group claims money — your money — will somehow cure them of all their woes, end the war crimes, and let them live in peace. That has been their song and dance for the past few years. It's their job.

However, someone on the Fediverse once falsely claimed that I was both homophobic and transphobic when we disagreed about something that had nothing to do with gender, sexuality, or identity. This kind of trolling is something I often see at Meta (Facebook), where I work. When a user dislikes or disagrees with someone and has no valid argument against them, they simply invent one. I saw this same kind of nonsense on the Fediverse when I spoke out against Proton VPN, for example. So it does not surprise me that the same type of false accusation is being made again.

Proton started in Switzerland, but if you read their TOS (Terms of Service), they list two (2) countries: Switzerland and the United States. No other countries on earth — just those two (2). This is because Proton has opened offices and even has its own data centers now in the United States, not just Switzerland anymore. That means they now also subject to U.S. jurisdiction and why they include them in their terms of services. A corporation, much like a person, only worries about the legal jurisdictions it is subject to. For example, presuming you're not living in Korea, you likely don't care about the laws in Korea. You could sell digital services to anyone on the internet across all 200 sovereign nations, including Korea, but your Terms of Service would not typically list all 200 nations (Korea included). The only time you would generally need to worry about Korea is if you open an office there or you, yourself, were there. Proton is not an exception to this simple reality. You can live in Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, or New Zealand and still purchase Proton’s digital products and services. For 250 years, we have had our highs and lows. We were never perfect, but we had some set of principles and some values and morals we strived toward, even if we sometimes fell short.

That said, speaking as an American, no, we are not the greatest country on earth, and I will not take anyone seriously who thinks we are. We have a Nazi pedophile running things, and a bunch of Nazi pedophile sympathizers who refuse to enact the rule of law or justice, or uphold civil rights or liberties right now.

We're in the middle of a constitutional crisis where our so-called leaders are breaking the law and ignoring the courts, with the Epstein files still not completely published as required by law and the courts.

We're rounding up people at random off the street, pulling them out of their cars, and invading their homes without any warrants or due process. We are doing this to anyone this regime — because that is what this is, a regime — does not like or finds undesirable. You can have this happen to you simply because some member of ICE is trying to meet their quota and earn a cash bonus.

The "President" has embezzled and scammed over $2,000,000,000.00, and we've threatened our allies, including our neighbors, our own states and towns, and fellow Americans.

Let's be clear: life in Gaza is devastating, cruel, and marked by war crimes. Innocent families — men, women, children, and the elderly — have seen their homes and everything they know wiped out. No, I mean mentally and emotionally. Yet the Gaza Verified Scam group shares nothing except demands for money.
