I found this cookie press at the thrift store. I had never seen, nor used, a cookie press, and it proved to be a lot of fun over the weekend ☺ It was also interesting the feel of "sturdy" that the materials had. Hard plastic, high quality aluminum. #baking #cookies

Little Kid was working on his letters. One of the words for "t" in the workbook is "television". It has a picture of an old TV, the type that had an antenna. Little kid: that's a radio Me: it's a TV, it has a screen for watching pictures Little kid: oh wow, it's a really old one Me: yes Little Kid: why does it have an antenna? Me: that's how it worked in the past Little Kid: oh wow, like in great-grandpa time? Me:.. well.. when...

I'm here updating the weather app every 10 min, as I signed up to volunteer for a bicycle ride with the Kid's club, and it's currently around 40% chances of rain, which in the past would not have been any issue, but nowadays I'm so out of bicycling shape ... 😐

#JukeboxFridayNight #PlayTime I was the type of kid that played by lining up cars and sorting buttons, and even though I've never played cards like in this song, finding patterns in numbers sounds like the same type of play. This is the shape of my heart. 🎶 He deals the cards as a meditation And those he plays never suspect He doesn't play for the money he wins He don't play for respect He deals the cards to find the answer The sacred geometry of chance The hidden law of a probab...

I have to say I'm also not fully understanding what's going on today on Fedi. First, wishing the best to those of you for which today has brought worry or trouble or lots of work (which is the vibe I'm picking up?). Second, I've being hesitating between.. watching it all as one watches a suspense movie in a foreign language... and ... deploy basic emergency shelter in place? [Just kidding... but if us, common people, need to do something, please someone tell...

If you're like me, and know nothing about Cryptography, and are wondering what to do about the Current Situation (or just have noticed something about the number 4 all over the place), this is the best explanation I've seen: Expect software updates, check for them, don't delay them. [After yesterday's Thing about Flawed Cryptography, Mar cautiously steps in The Internet and looks around] [Mar sees lots of computer-people hurrying around, some seem to be yelling with their arms up, is that someone crying in a corner? What exactly is PHP and why are people asking others to contact the local school and tell them about it??] [Mar sends thoughts of wellbeing to all involved, and cautiously steps back out of The Internet for a Little Bit]

Well, Kid's online website with curriculum for today's class is down (yes, it's the PHP thing), so we're doing art instead.

#JukeboxFridayNight #PianoMusic Nils Frahm - About Coming and Leaving https://youtu.be/y8dFi-N6haQ I had once a friend who liked Nils Frahm very much. She invited me to go to one of his concerts. I didn't know much about him, but the music looked quite nice . A few days before the concert, though, I had a life-threatening emergency and a lot of my life changed. In the years that followed, I stopped talking with that friend, our lives being now very different. More years passed. On...

A late entry for #JukeboxFridayNight with a #PersonalPlaylist. The first holidays I spent away from my family I was really sad. I had recently moved to the US for grad school and I could not travel home as I had upcoming field work. An old friend sent me by snail mail Beirut's album "The Flying Club Cub". My landlady gave me a tiny Christmas tree to put in my tiny apartment. My mom sent by international mail some gifts. I listened a lot to this album and those moments were the...

@Crumbee@beige.party has family in Spokane, in the area that's burning. Fortunately, as of now, they have evacuated safely with one of their pets. The other one wouldn't go. Cherished belongings were left home. I.. I don't have much words left. There was a time I used to do research tangential to planetary and climate science. There was much talking about risks and trends and twenty years in the future. And mitigation and things everyday people could do and .. and I don't thi...

Just in case it helps anyone, the Washington Trails Association trail map has an overlay option where you can see the air quality and wildfires along with the trails' location. It helps with choosing places to hike without exposure to unnecessary risk. It's sobering, but helpful. https://www.wta.org/go-outside/map #pnw #WAwx #hiking

Out of curiosity I let some of my carrots bloom. I had planted them too late last year, so there was not much carrot to start with. I'm glad I did this. The flowers are loved by so many insects. I've seen bees of many types, bee-flies, flies, wasps and tiny beetles. The flowers last a long time and give out a sweet fragrance, which is very appreciated by Little Kid. I love how gardening sometimes goes like that. You make a mistake, but then is not a mistake, it just turns into somethi...

Fixing the area under the garage steps was our "Saturday afternoon project" (it's Sunday evening and we're at.. 50% of the project 😆). @Crumbee has put most of the effort. I'm doing painting and fretting about the kids stomping over the plants in the area we're fixing. https://beige.party/@Crumbee/116514362182424044

#WaterfallWednesday This is an urban waterfall that collects street runoff water in Everett and diverts it to a wetland where the water can slow down and get filtered before entering the Snohomish River. I took this picture shortly after a heavy downpour. The waterfall structure is part of a pedestrian bridge over the railroad. #pnw #UrbanRunoff

I know, I know, there is a million pictures of this sign already, but I was feeling very touristy today. Plus the letter P has a seagull. I went to the spice store and got some favorite herbal tea, which I'm about to enjoy. #Seattle #BirdsOnSigns

From our trip to the Seattle Asian Art Museum, I was also absolutely fascinated by the current exhibit by Anila Quayyum Agha, a Pakistani American artist. She uses laser-cut geometrical shapes and light. It's incredible. In a stereotypical parenting moment, after the kids spent easily 15 min in that one pottery exhibit, they did not want to spend any time in this one beyond saying "oh wow" and moving along. I barely had time to take this picture (we were with another family and t...
