Out of curiosity I let some of my carrots bloom. I had planted them too late last year, so there was not much carrot to start with.
I'm glad I did this. The flowers are loved by so many insects. I've seen bees of many types, bee-flies, flies, wasps and tiny beetles. The flowers last a long time and give out a sweet fragrance, which is very appreciated by Little Kid.
I love how gardening sometimes goes like that. You make a mistake, but then is not a mistake, it just turns into something else.

@marsiposa@social.coop yes! I had a small crop of failed radishes I left to seed. Then I learned you can eat the green seed pods! The seeds that matured were enjoyed by the birds.

@marsiposa@social.coop I love that too. Queen Anne's Lace was one of a few non-native weeds I'd happily let flower because I love it for so many reasons. I have a friend who loves making carrot flower soda out of them. For me, it was mostly about the insects and occasional snacks for the goats.
