  Hello world! I'm thinking of trying a new OS. At the moment I'm on #opensuse because it's European (and it was also my first Linux distro back in 2002). However I'd like to move to something with a stronger stance against llm slop. My computing needs are modest: a web browser like #librewolf, #emacs and #lilypond cover it pretty much. Fortunately I have a wlan USB thing with open source drivers, so I have high hopes it will work.

  Saluton la tuta mondo! Mi aĉetis lastatempe novan aptelefonon :) ĝi estas fairphone6 de #fairphone kaj uzas #murena kiel mastruma sistemo (temas pri android sen gugel). Mi ege ŝatas ĝin :) nun mi gardas miajn proprajn datomojn sur propra #nextcloud - servo en Germanio :) Nun mi penas fermi malnovajn kontojn kiujn mi ne plu uzas delonge. Estas foje ege malfacile :/

But then the English and the Americans would have to compete on a level playing field and we can't have that, can we?

  @benny @kubofhromoslav @proedie @kinkkong @Pare @valhalla @EUCommission for me the important thing to realise is that if you were not raised in an English speaking country at some stage you will need to spend years learning English if you want to advance beyond a certain level in your field. English and American people don't need to do this. They get to spend this time doing other things. This is why I call the politics of mandatory English lessons in school suicidal.

  @benny @kubofhromoslav @proedie @kinkkong @Pare @valhalla @EUCommission What I want you to hear is that a foreign language for English native speakers is about broadening the mind. For everybody else learning English is about being able to understand and contribute to global conversations which are increasingly only being held in English. If you do not spend years of your life learning English you will be excluded from these conversations.

A large and ever increasing amount of important information is only or primarily available in English. non-English speakers spend years of their lives learning something that English speakers get for free in order to partake in international conversations.

  @benny @kubofhromoslav @proedie @kinkkong @Pare @valhalla @EUCommission we have thousands of native Esperanto speakers. The point of Esperanto is that it is a huge amount easier than English and it doesn't belong to anybody.

  @benny @kubofhromoslav @proedie @kinkkong @Pare @valhalla @EUCommission it doesn't solve the problem of non English speakers having to do a huge amount more work to partake in important conversations. Children could instead learn a 'native' language and a simple second language, like Esperanto. Then we could all speak with other with minimal effort.

  @kinkkong @benny @kubofhromoslav @proedie @Pare @valhalla @EUCommission considering how much time and money has been spent pushing English and suppressing Esperanto, I'd say it's not too shabby. Remember: the UK's second largest industry by revenue is the language.

  Saluton al la tuta mondo :) antaŭ nelonge mi havis strangan sonĝon. Ial mi dormis dum tridek jaroj kaj vekiĝis ie en Eŭropo. Mi parolis kun malgranda homgrupo. La etoso estis alia. Granda streĉo inter la EU kaj Usono. Oni ne plu havis la saman riĉecon kiel hodiaŭ (ekz. oni ne plu aŭtostiris) sed la plej mirinda afero: oni ne plu parolis la anglan. Komence mi parolis la germanan kun ili, poste mi probis la francan kaj oni rekonis la lingvon - sed mem eta knabino scipovis Esperanton :)
