Hello world! I'm thinking of trying a new OS. At the moment I'm on #opensuse because it's European (and it was also my first Linux distro back in 2002). However I'd like to move to something with a stronger stance against llm slop. My computing needs are modest: a web browser like #librewolf, #emacs and #lilypond cover it pretty much. Fortunately I have a wlan USB thing with open source drivers, so I have high hopes it will work.

I'm tempted to look at #guix, because of the diversity of the community and #guile but I'm a bit worried about so much llm slop coming in through dependencies. Also on the shortlist: #netbsd which seems pretty European. The core maintainers seem to be mainly white men, which isn't necessarily bad, but I'd prefer more diversity. The anti-llm policy seems really good.

@ehrt74@mastodon.social I'm in a similar boat with openSUSE.

@ehrt74@mastodon.social I think one of the BSDs. NetBSD has the strongest stance About LLMs. Guix uses the libre Linux kernel which is downstream from the Linux kernel. The Hurd is possible with Guix but doesn't yet support Xorg. Debian has a Hurd based project where Xorg does work ang seems to be the furthest along of all projects using the Hurd. Gentoo also has a Hurd project. Arch-hurd hasn't had an update since 2019. Currently, as far as I can tell, LLMs are only being used for testing in the Linux kernel.

However I'd like to move to something with a stronger stance against llm slop. Antix Linux - has all 3 applications. Chimera Linux - LibreWolf and Lilypond might work through gcompat. Gentoo - has all 3 aplications. NetBSD - has all 3 applications, but LibreWolf is in pkgsrc's wip, so needs manual compilation.
