Everytime I get back to Adelaide I get a new reason to love this city. My package was delivered to the same unit # of the next building by mistake and I thought I was going to have to convince the people who lived there that it was mine, but instead it just sat there in the walkway untouched for nearly a week with everybody simply 'Not My Problem'ing it. I did my part by walking up and taking it in silence without explaining, interacting with or thanking anyone.

Upgraded the helping hands on the soldering clamp with a wingnut and a sliding t-nut, and now I can raise and lower the arms much easier. This means that I can have the helping hands hold wires and components directly into the circuit board in the clamp. #projects

Have I unpacked from my Sydney trip? No. Have I got most of the way through replicating the 'Open' sign from the Darling Square Cinnabon? Absolutely! #projects #maker #cinnabon #hobby #lasercutting

Huh, I listened to Billie Eilish's music after hearing her on Conan O'Brien's podcast twice in a week (I'm listening to the podcast as it comes out and also in reverse order) and she's pretty great, like a modern take on some of my favourites from the nineties. Why had nobody been raving about her consistently for the past 6 years

Updating my bed cooler to add a "maximum off time" setting, to ensure that the air in the bed gets cycled every now and then even if the temperature at the base is cool enough. Am I slowly reinventing the PID controller through trial and error? Maybe!

#maker tip: when gluing two objects together, make sure to fuck about with them for the entire dry time of the glue so it never really sets properly

This is an old project, but by some miracle it's still working and I woke up this morning wanting to celebrate the things I love more. This Inkplate e-ink screen shows Conway's Game of Life, seeded from tarpits I have on the Internet. The tarpits are programs on my computer that superficially look like insecure Telnet and Remote Desktop services, but actually exist to respond super slowly and make bots scanning the Internet 'get stuck'. When a bot connects to th...

Just came across this Matthias Wandel video and I have the same dial indicator arms spare, so I'm gonna try making a 3D printed version for my soldering clamp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0q68a0ZaMM

I had a bad day today so I'm gonna fix the tiniest possible issue with the #homeautomation - that my bedtime audiobook appears ~30 times a month in my Last.fm account.

I'm seeing a lot of takes on this in my circles, here's mine: I would spend $300 on building a thing before I spent $80 on buying it. I end up with a product that works exactly how I want, that I can trust to not secretly be fucking me over, is repairable in the future, and most importantly IT'S FUN TO MAKE THINGS

Do any 3d printerers/machinists/CAD people use a 6DoF/SpaceMouse-like device and recommend? I just saw a YouTuber I like with one in his laptop, not sure if it's a gimmick or not especially since I mainly design in XY/YZ/XZ planes #3dprinting #machining #maker #cad

Finally prototyped an idea I randomly had 2-3 years ago and it has some potential! Needs a bigger drive gear I think, also some actual sun instead of an LED bulb #projects #hobby #3dprinting #electronics #beam #prototype

It'll take a few days to see if it worked, but I think I've got data from my gym into the home automation ๐ I've got my health "dashboard" (an LED man who slowly turns red) pulling my visit logs, and my reminder to go to the gym is also going to announce its current occupancy. Happy to have a decent process and setup for hacking Android apps now! Depending on how much I do of that some of it could be automated in the future. #homeautomation

Just read an article complaining about the Apple Watch (demanding, annoying) and praising the Casio F91W (peaceful, simple) and guys, these are not the only two options! I really want to get my thoughts together and write about technology. That tweet about tech workers shooting their printer if it makes a noise has done so much unnecessary damage.
