My apologies for posting a photo of a computer screen, but I needed to share this captcha with the world. It asks about things that are easy to tear with one's hands. I am like, easy for whom? Surely there's someone out there who can tear buckets with their bare hands, and some folks who find tearing paper not so easy. I also had to stare at the other objects because I wasn't quite able to identify them and so I didn't know how tearable they were. Captchas are bec...

Laptop cannot decide whether the "proper" English is British or American and marks both as incorrect 🤣 (What I believe is happening: the OS's spell check suggests one, Outlook's spell check suggests the other, they are talking past each other. I am not sure how to make them agree.) #englishlanguage

We (our entire apartment building) have been without power for 15 hours. Neighbors keep calling the electric network provider, but the customer service is an AI chatbot, and the human operators on the phone are probably also using an AI software. Therefore, different neighbors have been told, during the day, that the issue was solved (it's not), that there was never any issue reported (we have so far like 10 different ticket numbers), that the issue will be solved at time T (it hasn&...

This is Castanya, our god-donkey. She lives in a donkey park/sanctuary and we pay a monthly fee to help cover the place's expenses, which makes us her "godparents". Yesterday the park ran a competition party. Donkey+human teams had to complete a set of tasks, such as carrying water in saddlebags, for points. All the donkeys were very good. The thing is, Castanya is extremely unruly. She refused to cooperate in any task. She is the bestest!!!! Go Castanya!

All this self-host techie discourse sounds, to me, a bit like a self-sufficiency dystopia. If we were discussing how bad public transportation is, and someone replied "just transport yourself", most of us would say "that's not it". But when we discuss wanting to get out of large American tech or of nazi-sympathyzing companies, the solution can't be "just host your services yourself". Having to do everything yourself is not my idea of a functioning society....

My name is Anna and I am an academic studying different topics around sustainability and social responsibility. In recent projects I have focused on labor issues, on the circular economy, on consumer behavior, and on how DEI spreads along supply chains, but I am interested in infinitely many other topics. Methods-wise I use mostly econometrics, with occasional experiments and (recently) analytical modeling. I teach mostly MBAs and some ExecEd. #introduction
