ENDING FAT INSTABILITY For the first time in a long, long life, I feel stable. It is boring sometimes. There is less drama, less urgency, less emotional weather pretending to be meaning. But in a million years, I would not go back. I would not go back to the fat instability of mind and body. Six years of fasting have made the body lighter. A year and a half of breathwork has made the mind quiet. Routine has made the days trustworthy. There is coffee in hand, a warm fire, Pete nearby, th...

THE MIND GOT THE MESSAGE It took about a year to train the mind with two simple words: No comment. At first, the mind would introduce a grievance, a fear, or an argument, and I would answer: No comment. Again and again. Not because it stopped working. Because it worked. Now the brain seems to understand that conflict is a waste of time. It does not get fed. It does not get a hearing. It does not get to turn one passing thought into a whole emotional weather system. Breathwork and fas...

STOP FEEDING CONFLICT I did the A Course in Miracles Workbook for years. Over and over. I understood many of the lessons. I valued them. But I did not find lasting peace through them. The mind could still turn a grievance, a fear, or an argument into a full-on unsettling production. Then I began answering mental conflict with two simple words: NO COMMENT. I had no idea whether something so simple would work. I only hoped it might. What I did not yet realise was that all those years of...

THE MAN WHO SHOWED UP For 65 years, I thought I had #failed at everything. Then #COVID arrived, and I started fasting. I did not have much #faith in myself, so I took it one day at a time. The fear of #illness drove me. So did the huge #belly. So did the almost complete absence of #selfEsteem. None of this was noble at all. I was #frightened, #uncomfortable, and tired of feeling #trapped in a body I could not trust. But I kept going. Day after day. The results began to show, little by...

Are there any A Course in Miracles students here on Mastodon who are also interested in breathwork or fasting? I’ve studied the Course for years, practise breathwork daily, and have fasted consistently since COVID began. For me, all three have become part of the same movement toward clarity, peace, and a simpler life. I’d enjoy meeting others who are interested in practising these things plainly, without spiritual fog. #ACIM #ACourseInMiracles #Breathwork #Fasting #fasting #acim #acourseinmir...

TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED I would love to see more people write about what they have actually lived. Not the slogan. Not the position. Not the borrowed certainty. Tell me what happened to you. What changed you. What frightened you. What helped. What failed. What you believed before experience corrected you. The smallest honest account of a life is usually more interesting than another polished opinion. You do not need to sound wise. You do not need to teach anyone. Just say what happen...

REMEMBERING REALITY The mind comments on everything. It names, judges, explains, defends, and turns each moment into a story. The story keeps changing. One moment fear. The next certainty. Then blame, hope, memory, or anticipation. “NO COMMENT” ends that movement. It does not argue with the mind. It simply stops feeding it. And when the shifting commentary is no longer covering everything up, what remains is: REALITY. Not created. Not discovered. REMEMBERED. #REMEMBER #comment #ju...

THE END OF SOMEWHERE ELSE There are lives built around striving, escape, improvement, and the hope that somewhere else will finally feel right. And there are lives in which very little is required. The work is simple. Breathe. Write. Care for the house. Care for the people and creatures who share it. Let other adults live their own lives. Keep warm in winter. Pay attention to what is already enough. “I need do nothing” does not mean neglect. It means life no longer has to be forced....

HALOS, HORNS & THE HUMAN IMAGE The “saint” may be defended by holiness. The “villain” may be defended by rage. THE PEDESTAL & THE PITCHFORK When harm appears, it should be named. Sometimes a door must close. Sometimes the truth must be spoken plainly. Sometimes, consequences are necessary. Forgiveness does not deny what happened. It does not call harm love. But condemnation is not clarity. And worship is not love. The one behaving badly is still a human being, not the sum of the harm. The one called a saint does not become greater because others kneel before his image. One is not a mon...

THE MACHINE MADE ME DO IT!! Machines have no moral responsibility. Human beings decide what is built, what it is trained on, where it is used, what its output is trusted for, and what happens next. When something goes wrong, blaming “the AI” hides the people and institutions whose choices produced the result. That is not only foolish. It is dangerous. A powerful tool can cause real harm. But responsibility remains with the humans who create it, deploy it, profit from it, regulate it, and...

@NyxKai Yes. Both replace the living person with an image that can be elevated or destroyed. Refusing both leaves room for clear sight, firm boundaries, and freedom.

@NyxKai Yes, what we are building and why matters enormously. But so does who is responsible. A machine may reflect human intention, bias, greed, imagination, or care. Responsibility still belongs to the people who design it, deploy it, profit from it, and decide how its output will be used.

KEEPING AI CLEAN I love AI. Used wisely, it’s a great tool, but it is not an oracle, a guru, or a substitute for discernment. It can help me think, reflect, question, write, simplify, and notice where I’m tangled. It can also produce very convincing nonsense, especially when spirituality, conspiracy, certainty, and mystery get mixed together. For me, the safeguard is that I have instructed my AI to use A Course in Miracles as the guiding thought system in our conversations. That means the c...

Without kindness, truth easily becomes a weapon. With kindness, truth becomes recognisable. It stops arguing and starts healing. Ancient teachings from India and Tibet often speak of breath, attention, stillness, and the loosening of the separate self. I do not meet these ideas as museum pieces. I meet them in a modern body, in ordinary daily breathwork, sitting quietly, breathing slowly, and noticing what falls away. There is something humbling about experiencing an ancient practice in a mode...

Intermittent Fasting does not make a person good. It is not moral, magical, or superior. But when fasting becomes gentle and ordinary, it can remove a lot of noise. The body stops demanding quite so loudly. The constant cycle of wanting, reaching, tasting, comforting, filling, and wanting again begins to quieten. There is more space between impulse and action. And kindness lives in that space. Fasting teaches me that I do not have to answer every urge. A sensation can arise, be felt, and pas...

I understand the longing for a powerful being to restore order. Many traditions speak in that language. But I wonder if the deeper invitation is much closer than waiting. Perhaps order begins wherever love is no longer postponed. Wherever kindness is chosen instead of attack. Wherever truth is not used as a weapon. Wherever fear is seen clearly and not obeyed. I do not know how the great traditions finally resolve their prophecies, and I do not need to. What I can see is simpler than that....

Yes, “the apocalypse is right on schedule” is funny because it is both a joke and not entirely a joke. Humanity does have a remarkable talent for standing in a burning room, checking the calendar, and saying, “Good, at least we’re on time.” Every generation seems convinced it has booked the end of the world personally. The signs are always there. The prophets are always ready. The headlines are always wearing theatrical makeup. Someone somewhere is always explaining that this time it really is...

“Nothing I see means anything” does not mean, in the crude sense, that nothing matters. It means nothing I see has the meaning I have given it by habit, memory, fear, preference, injury, history, or desire. The chair is not meaningless as a chair. Pete is not meaningless. The dogs are not meaningless. The room, the body, the morning, the weather, the pain, the breath, the stroke, the old stories — none of it has the fixed meaning my mind keeps pasting onto it. It means: “This does not mean w...

Not dread. Not “civilisation is doomed.” Not another reason to tighten around the world. Just this. This world is not my home. It is temporary. It is dreamlike. Everything made here passes. Civilisations pass. Bodies pass. Systems pass. Even the things that seem most solid are only here for a while. So there is nothing here worth defending with cruelty or fear. There is only kindness while we appear to be here. That is the part that matters to me now. If the world is temporary, kindness i...

I was listening to Geoffrey Hinton talk about AI, intelligence, risk, and the strange possibility that humans may no longer be the most intelligent beings in the room. A lot of people hear that and feel fear. I don’t. I feel something closer to hope. Human beings are endlessly clever, but we are not reliably kind. We organise whole civilisations around fear, competition, profit, status, tribe, punishment, and grievance. We keep calling it progress, but much of it still feels like frightened...
