I need recommendations for a new grocery store app for me and Min to share. I tried using Reminders because it has Siri support and seemed like it would work well, but it has a lot of little quirks that make it frustrating to use as a grocery store app. Must have: - share and sync - Attach PICTs - Flag items as priority - Easily undo a marked item - Sorting Would be nice: - Siri support - Easily manage/ del marked - Categories/Sections - Nice compact UI Thanks!

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I think most/all of that can be served by AnyList.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I was curious too and looked at AnyList that was recommended to you. Nice but the personal data linkage is possibly a showstopper.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social i used this for a bit and thought it was nice https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grocery-smart-shopping-list/id1195676848 but what i use now and absolutely love is this one, it’s mainly my recipes app but it also does groceries https://apps.apple.com/us/app/crouton-recipe-manager/id1461650987

@gedeonm@mastodon.social groceries ap0 is what we use. It’s basically a layer over reminders though. https://apps.apple.com/app/id1195676848

Maybe I should learn how to vibe code so I can make my own simple, elegant grocery store list app. So many of these apps try to do everything. Don’t need everything. Meh. 😕

  • @gedeonm@mastodon.social we use the Microsoft To Do app for grocery shopping lists (from when it used to be Wunderlist). Isn’t perfect… but it works fine, checks off most of your boxes, and is free. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-to-do/id1212616790

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I wish @sophia@ganesha.social ’s app was still going. That one rocked for a long time.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I use Reminders now so it’s been awhile, but AnyList does almost all of this except flagging as priority. There might be a way but I’m not sure. Always enjoyed AnyList when I used it.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I would usually recommend AnyList (which I love) but it may be overkill. And if you’ve tried it before but didn’t like it, not much has changed so you still won’t like it. 😀

@gedeonm@mastodon.social We've gotten pretty far with shared note in the built-in Notes app. Can't use Siri to add to it, but it's easy to set up sections, nothing ever disappears, etc. we just uncheck stuff to add it back to the list and let Notes sort it.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social What is it about Reminders that didn’t work for you? Curious because all of your “Must have” and “Would be nice” items are covered by Reminders. I use Reminders for my grocery list. The killer features for me is being able to add items to the list by telling the HomePods in the kitchen when I run out of an item and while at the store having the list on my wrist and managing it via Apple Watch. No phone in hand required.
