@mcc@mastodon.social the left and the libertarians did compete on equal footing in the late 90s, but the left didn't have any ability to organize outside of the internet and liberals always wished the internet would go away. liberals are just really attached to existing institutions and aren't willing to lean into the disruptive new thing like the right is.

@bob@feed.hella.cheap We had RATM concerts though!! And… noam chomsky lectures? At universities? Which I guess is why the right defunded universities as soon as the 90s were over. I think you're older than me. Where would you put the Seattle WTO protests on the political spectrum?

❝ the left ❞ in USA? in 1990s? nope. the only “left” online was the NetArt movement and we were treated with disdain by the so-called left. i have been online since the 1980s and an activist since the 90s. I AM THE ORIGINAL BLOGDIVA OF THE 00s. back then the so-called left treated tech activists like me as radioactive because we warned this would happen, ESPECIALLY back in the 00s after both parties rubber stamped DHS and decided to throw migrants under the bus. NAH. @bob@feed.hella.cheap @mcc@mastodon.social
