@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com Blueair has some very stylish models, and I know from experience that the products work well https://www.blueair.com/collections/blue-signature%E2%84%A2

I'm going to try not to walk around angry after spending a bunch of money setting myself up to be able to breathe moderately clean air because of a bunch of greedy fuckers who knew exactly who they were hurting and just didn't care. I imagine I will be only moderately successful. :blobcatknife: In case it's helpful, here are the recommendations from the thread I ended up going with: For Corsi-Rosenthal filtration: https://www.cleanairkits.com/ For respirators: https://envomask.com/ #climate

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com 3M 7500 series respirator with the right filters attached is inconvenient but effective. The 2297 seems to work but they have a whole guide that has details. I use commercial air filter units indoors, no real opinions about the better option there but I am curious how to build something better than what I've got (I specifically don't want all the fancy touch controls, WiFi connectivity, etc, that they have).

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com Corsi Rosenthal boxes are a bit of a space hog, but you can decorate them in any way you like. I leave mine going most of the time, because they also clear out pollen, mold spores, and cat dander. The only downside is the fan noise.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com we run Honeywell Air purifiers here in Ohio and have had no smokey smell or heavy air in the house even though we've been going in and out. Downstairs we run the Honeywell - True HEPA Air Purifier for Large Rooms - Black, HPA300. In the bedroom we run the Honeywell Fresher Air Compact Table top air Purifier - HHT270 series. We're bringing the bedroom one to the conference hotel room over the weekend. It takes up about half a large suitcase. It really does freshen the air, much better than my experience with a Corsi box.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com My only air cleaner is a Corsi-Rosenthal box that is ugly but functional. I haven't done much research into other air cleaners, but have heard good things about AirFanta's products, at least one of which can be collapsed into a smaller space for storage or travel. I don't know what type of filters it takes. If I were on a computer, I would check before posting this, but I'm on my phone and don't have enough data for much web browsing, sorry. The owner of AirFanta is on X as @engineer_wong@bird.makeup (Please don't fault him for being on X instead of Mastodon. He is in China, and I assume that either the Great Firewall or government policy holds him back from joining us here. I'm providing a link to his X posts using bird.makeup so that you can learn about him, but please note that he won't see any replies sent via bird.makeup.) I'm hesitant to recommend a specific respirator, because what is comfortable for one person may not be comfortable for another. I wear respirators approximately 12 hours every day, even when there's no smoke, and for me, the most important feature is wide, comfortable straps that go all the way around my head.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com IME the CR box outperforms devices costing up to ten times as much. Given that it's our *lungs* we're talking about, where whatever particles go in don't come out, I thank our ugly little box every time I see it.

RE: https://kind.social/@Texan_Reverend/116932277351592242 @alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com PC fans are much quieter than a box fan; cleanairkits.com is a source with various sizes and designs. Also see this thread (and the thread it quotes) for discussion of how to fit PC fans on a standard Corsi-Rosenthal filter box.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com IMaybe these would do? I think they have a good rep and run quiet. https://www.cleanairkits.com/
