Gonna be trying furry convention next month
-
@Kolanaki@pawb.social 2026-10-14 12:39
Wait… How do I get a job at a furry convention? And is that job “full-time pet?” 🤔

@Bubs12@lemmy.cafe 2026-10-14 12:47
S tier ain’t what it used to be. Inflation is everywhere.

@ChromaticMan@lemmy.world 2026-10-14 13:11
Recruiter is F tier.

I’ve found that having an opinion helps in job applications, from personal experience. There’s so much AI garbage being thrown around in terms of job applications, so if you can throw in an actual opinion about something, especially if it’s tech related, then that might at least stand out.

I was out of work for four months spamming resumes on different job websites before a recruiter cold called me and got me in at my current place so can confirm. Out of five different professional jobs I’ve had, only one of them has been off of job search platforms :/

“My Dad runs the furry convention”

@UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2026-10-14 14:08
The suspiciously wealthy and poweful furries support more then the arts.
-
@SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 2026-10-14 14:25
I’m not really sure if recruiters aren’t at the lowest step there.

Job platforms so bad that D and E just got yeeted into the shadow realm i guess
-
@chungus_eater@lemmus.org 2026-10-14 15:24
yeah except if you’re at a furry convention you have to eat shit and piss in dog bowls while a guy dressed in a chihuahua suit laps it up
-
@HeHoXa@lemmy.zip 2026-10-14 15:32
Conventions generally are great for networking And for getting laid
-
@bizarroland@lemmy.world 2026-10-14 16:20
Feel like I need to start going to furry conventions during my next job search.
-
@DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2026-10-14 18:08
Or if you’re the 20 year old that works the same position as me that I literally would have assassinated someone for at his age, then it’s “my brother works here”.
-
@captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2026-10-14 18:16
Unfortunately the perverts I hang out with are largely programmers and nurses and I’m neither, which really kills my networking options

@MBech@feddit.dk 2026-10-14 18:30
I got contacted randomly on Linkedin by some recruiter. I needed a job right after college, and figured might aswell hear her out. Turned out my dream job just kinda fell into my lap that day.

@TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 2026-10-14 19:42
I just got an A tier one, can’t complain

@Limonene@lemmy.world 2026-10-14 20:05
D: state-run job websites for the unemployed. You don’t have to be unemployed to use them, nor a resident of that state. The listings are at least not scams, and you don’t have to pay anything to apply, but success at getting hired is still low.

@tauonite@lemmy.world 2026-10-14 20:32
I dunno I’d put furry convention higher

Knowing a guy is a goated strat tbh, hardest part is being competent enough that someone you know would vouch for you
-
@Dojan@pawb.social 2026-10-14 21:56
As a furry that doesn’t attend conventions, this is having me reconsider it.
-
@yuri@pawb.social 2026-10-14 22:29
i reckon you could walk away from a con with a new job, living situation, and even a romantic partner if you wanted. furries are weirdly good at networking for how often they’re treated as weird pariahs by normies.

@Mongostein@lemmy.ca 2026-10-15 00:48
Yeah I made a career change and am now freelancing. I have not applied for a job in 5 years. It’s kinda nice.
-
@Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2026-10-15 07:55
I never got anywhere with recruiters
-
@chunes@lemmy.world 2026-10-15 08:30
G: walk in and demand to speak to the manager
-
@Tja@programming.dev 2026-10-15 09:53
Just to be the contrarian: my first job in my current industry was through a recruiter on LinkedIn. It got me an instant 50% salary bump and after a few years and promotions I was making double the previous job. My second job was… through a recruiter on LinkedIn. It got me an instant 30% salary bump and now after more years and promotions I’m over double the first job. This in in a country where I had immigrated 10 years prior. For me linkedin is the best social network ever.

I heard of some guy working 20+ years for blizzard because his dad knew someone in the Company. But he doesn’t mention it that often.
