@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org For absolute transparency, they allow coding agent code submissions. But, the no ai features promise is still to be commended

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org yes. After a long time of havering, as soon as duckduckgo brought out their 'no AI' version I was on it. If I used an office suite at all I'd be onto libre too.

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org 1M downloads for MS OfficePay365-24-7 might be a rounding error.... But 1M *new* downloads for an alternative office suite that does NOT spend BILLIONS in advertisement and does NOT have locked dependent entities the size of US Govt is kind of a big deal. Plus, those 1M new users usually never go back to MS stuff. #LibreOffice #FOSS

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org I recently made a document on it. It's really great. Try it. 👍

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org Now they just need to expel all the "AI" generated code they've ingested.

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org So much nicer on my Mac than MS Office. I'm not a fan of word processing software, but when you need it, you need it, and LibreOffice Writer did what I needed it to do.

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org It's almost as if people hate "AI" for some reason.

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org I downloaded LibreOffice over the weekend, and began using it in earnest for work this week. As of this writing, I’m two full days in and have no issues to report. It does everything I currently need it to do.

@markwyner@mas.to @libreoffice@fosstodon.org I remember looking into OnlyOffice and they were hyping AI. If I run into a use case for it(and an AI with acceptable ethics, that's the hard part), the LibreOffice plugin architecture lets me add some AI. There's really no good reason to pollute the core application with it. Maybe some use cases could benefit from some tighter integration, but that's a reason to look at the plugin system, not throw a peripheral feature in alongside editing and formatting features. Hey, other plugins might benefit from that too! So that brief exploration of OO didn't even get as far as a download.
