I understand this in many ways violates the philosophy of Signal, but I do wish there was a choice to still enable disappearing messages that were not chat-wide. I have some family members who are more sentimental about our chats than I am, so it'd be cool to allow them to keep our history while I delete it. Though again I understand why Signal doesn't want to open this can of worms. Come to think of it, has any messenger done this before? The choice to have messages disappear for both parties or just you? I know iMessage has a 'disappearing' messages feature but it is ONLY for your end, no choice in the matter.

@hen@social.lol But u can delete ur msg or the whole chat manually for sure without affecting the messages in ur family members chat... :ablobcatattentionreverse: in a way problem solved. Okee, i understand, they do not disappear automatically after a preconfigured time... For me, this feature is more about being able to control the receivers chat history and make sure, that sensitive content will be wiped off the phone after a time, without relaying on someone's reliability :ablobcatneon:

@hen@social.lol I only know ONE messenger, where this feature is very poorly implemented. No custom wipe time and the first possible wipe off time is after 24h. And the same messenger deletes the messages in preselected wipe time frame, even the receiver didn't open and read the msg. How stupid is that? Guess what messenger i am talking about? Yes,right. The 21 billion backdoor spyware. What year MZ announced that "Privacy starts now..."? Long time a go. All went in opposite direction :gummyassassin:
