We do not live in a fucking democracy: https://www.leicester.news/bbc-edits-out-pride-pins-on-university-challenge-in-orwellian-move/ Do feel free to complain to the BBC about this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints And maybe mention how many times Reform and far right folks are featured in their shit but apparently being Queer on the BBC isn't allowed... #UKPol #LGBTQ #Activism

In awesome news, the local paper that published it is also on the Fediverse: https://www.leicester.news/ So I am now also following them here.

Follow up on this proving that this is not an impartiality issue but an explicitly political one: https://www.leicester.news/previous-university-challenge-contestants-blast-bbcs-inconsistent-policy-on-impartiality/ If you haven't already written to complain, please do so and you can even use some of this article in it to demonstrate the issue. #LGBTQ #BBC #UKPol

@alexisbushnell@toot.wales The Bigoted Broadcasting Corporation is of course living up to its name. But will they edit out the logo of the RBL on Remembrance Day? Somehow I think not, even though it IS a registered trademark! PS: And let us not forget that the RBL is a transphobic bunch of fucking TERFs who left me traumatised after doing a week long course with them, along with repeated misgendering! So, of COURSE Auntie will not censure them 🤬

@alexisbushnell@toot.wales This is incredibly disturbing but in a sense I find it even more troubling that they just don't stand for anything but do whatever is politically convenient at any one point. The BBC was rather explicit in its support of LGBTQ+ people (if nowhere near enough but it certainly wasn't hidden) but so was the political climate. Us queer folk didn't change. So why did they (rhetorical)? The same with many corporations and other public bodies. There are no values, it's only about doing the most opportunistic thing at any one time. Much as I loathe those who oppose us, at least you know where they stand. It's more honest than whatever the BCC et al are doing.

@alexisbushnell@toot.wales BBC just increased fees, to show an orwellian reality? Really silly to pay extra for fascism.

@alexisbushnell@toot.wales It's a wonder the tiger made it through the flag, emblem, or symbol. I remember University Challenge being a lot less fascist in the early years, teams were bedecked with symbols sometimes. Truly a Fascist University Challenge Kafka edition.

@alexisbushnell@toot.wales “In line with our editorial guidelines, we advise that no badges, flags, and emblems or symbols are worn or visible during filming, along with clothing with obvious branding or slogans....." Remembrance Day poppies excepted 🤔.
