@FreakyFwoof@universeodon.com I draw the line at companies violating copyright on a massive scale and it being hand waved away. So if you have a small scale model made with cleared data, sure. We've had OCR since the 80s, google had real time video text translation over a decade ago. We don't need LLMs or transformer models for accessibility. We need purpose built products that actually make it viable.

  • @TechTangents@dialup.space Was not clear from the video. You read/heard AI, judged a book by it's cover. You did reach out later, yes, but your instant and visceral reaction was 'AI bad!' It's possible that the user did so with local models, their own electricity/water etc. Yes, you ended up loving the product but you immediately tainted it for some people because that was your instant reaction. AS a so-called 'influencer' you have the ability to make or break a product with reactions like that, and that felt... Dirty. Harsh in a way nothing else I've come across of yours, was. You do you, and nothing some random guy on the internet says is going to change that, but I'm just giving my thoughts as a subscriber. I'm not here to argue, tell you you're wrong blahblahblah keyboard warriors make me oh so tired. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, genuinely. Thank you.

  • @TechTangents@dialup.space Admittedly I may not enjoy it but when so much of the internet is graphical in nature and I'm thus forced to use some form of AI to navigate it, I have to see the good side in things like 'Seeing AI' 'Be My AI' etc, for image descriptions, things that enhance my screen-reader and so on. Not an apologist, just pragmatic. I, personally, *cannot* avoid it, not if I want to use the internet in a meaningful way. It isn't great, but what is? Not Amazon, not Apple, not Google, not Microsoft, nothing is great. Everything sucks, just depends on how much suck you're willing to put up with to get by.

@TechTangents@dialup.space @FreakyFwoof@universeodon.com I draw the line at every web server getting hammered by AI scraper bots, pushing up hosting bandwidth costs, and making admins resort to deploying 'solutions' that make websites less accessible. edit: To be honest, I drew the line long before that. And before the big tech companies started shoving "AI" (as a uselessly excited umbrella term) into everyone's face at every opportunity.
