Related to the previous toot on drones and Cox model airplanes, as a child, I also built Estes model rocket kits. Once the rocket was built, ignitable engines were inserted in the bottom and fired for takeoff by a car battery. The rocket would go up then pop a parachute to return to ground for retrieval. The last flight, I put in an engine that greatly exceeded the recommended size and never saw my model again. I think my parents hoped that it all would lead to some career with NASA.

Part of why my mind is so damaged is that I grew up with a shortwave radio in my bedroom. I overexposed as a child. 🤣 That radio would pull in the world for me. Stations would give a mailing address on the air. I could write and tell the date / time / and frequency of what I heard. The station would send a nice card back confirming. A QSL. Radio Moscow sent good swag. I wrote one time and asked for a city map, "just a cheap one." They sent it! Hilversum, Holland, had a fun...

1976, as a teenager, I fought my way into being a member of the local amateur radio club to use their old, but fine, Collins rigs and rotatable beam high in the sky. The old guys there were not keen on letting a teenager become a member until that teenager brought two dozen donuts to a meeting. I was voted in that night. 🍩 👍 #HamRadio #AmateurRadio

I've bought a used #microslop #surface go2 with the m3 CPU and 128GB nvme (it was also available with a Pentium and 64GB eMMC) including a keyboard cover. The battery has only 200 cycles. I am working with some #embedded #esp32 #websocket for #ClassQuiz. It took me hours why the websocket connection would seemingly random collapse. Now I figured it out after debugging for hours: I configured a timeout for the network socket on the esp32. At least I found it after setting up Wireshark and later #mitmproxy with custom CA certificates... What gave me the final hint were the exact 2 seconds between the websocket opening and closing. #embedded #rust
