I think, I'll add Bigtreetech to the very short list of companies I actively recommend. I find the 3D-printer^W STM32 breakout boards a joy to work with and as I was just dreading to copy some schematics over to #FreeCad it turns out all dimensions are sane. Like "for this edge we choose 10cm"-sane.

Wool _will_ take 800 tpm during #spinning after all. I just need to be willing to reduce fiber count to noncredible levels (somehow the resulting yarn is actually stable).

I have a place where I want to control up to 4 steppers but in a modular fashion, i.e. it'll be some other machine using up to 4 motors on other days. So I need a 16+ pin connector which is easy to plug in/out, ideally cheap because this is just a hobby project. After some research, the "best" option seems to be USB-C at 19 pins (at ~1 EUR with breakout board for easy soldering), with the single downside that my room will contain a USB-C port actively regulated to pus...

Last month, the JMA website conducted a survey, asking respondents to choose from a list of candidates, and based on the results, along with interviews with meteorological experts, the agency has made its decision, and says that henceforth it will refer to over-40-degree days as kokushobi, which translates to “cruel heat days” or “cruelly hot days.” Kokushobi is written with the kanji 酷, 暑, and 日, meaning “cruel,” “heat/hot,” and “day,” respectively. [...] Kokushobi was by far the most common...

2fa backup: I have several phones with Google Authenticator and no cloud backups. I wanted to extract and save the accounts and secrets on my computer. On each phone I took a screenshot of the exported qr codes, then used zbarimg (apt-get install zbar-tools) to extract the secrets. it outputs text files with a single line: QR-Code:otpauth-migration://offline?data=... Next I used google-authenticator-exporter to convert the text files into something easier to deal with; its output looks like...

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani launched an initiative to provide free polynomial time solutions to all computational problems in New York City. Mamdani has provided a polynomial time solution to the 3-SAT problem, to which all NP-hard problems in the city of New York can be reduced. Mamdani believes that his this will be more efficient for the city, although some critics call his solution “radical” and “playing a dangerous game with mathematics.” As a consequence of providing P-time solutions to...

We can trace most of the capture years from Nikon maker notes instead of memory. The D3300 appears at the start of the archive in 2016. The D5300 became the main body in February 2018; its final retained photograph from March 2023 reports a shutter count of 575,747. Nikon lists the D5300 shutter as tested to more than 100,000 cycles, so the recorded count reached about 5.8 times that reference point. We used the D3300 again after that, added a D3500 from August 2023 through April 2024, and retur...
