New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani launched an initiative to provide free polynomial time solutions to all computational problems in New York City. Mamdani has provided a polynomial time solution to the 3-SAT problem, to which all NP-hard problems in the city of New York can be reduced. Mamdani believes that his this will be more efficient for the city, although some critics call his solution “radical” and “playing a dangerous game with mathematics.” As a consequence of providing P-time solutions to all problems in New York, Mamdani has solved one of the Millennium Problems, and was offered a $1 million cash prize from the Clay Mathematics Institute. The Mayor turned down the money, saying that it “belongs to the people of New York.” “I haven’t knocked on anyone’s door and heard their concern is that the mayor makes too little as a hobbyist mathematician,” said Mamdani, alluding to one of his travelling sales routes he had devised in just O(N^2) time. “My sole focus is on making constant- and linear-time algorithms for the working people of New York.” The New York Post has been especially critical of Mamdani’s proof that P = NP, which now renders the entire field of cryptography obsolete. Due to the relative ease of factoring large numbers in “Mamdani’s City”, as the Post called it, multigenerational mom-and-pop cryptographers will be put out of work. Mamdani has yet to respond to the Post. -- the bubble (why is it only on instagram?)
