Hi, I'm Ru. I live in Kraków and I walk a lot. I wondered how much of my own city I'd actually seen, so I mapped every street I've walked in 4 years here. The answer: 2%. That bugged me enough to build Untrod, an iPhone app that colours in every street you walk and shows you the ones you haven't. It's a one-person project and the beta just opened. If you like a wander, I'd love your feedback: https://untrod.app #Introduction #Walking #Urbanism #Maps #IndieDev

High costs are pushing developers to cut corners on materials, and it shows. We are getting these generic concrete boxes that look the same everywhere because they are cheap to build. It is a tragedy when budget constraints kill any sense of proportion or soul in a building. Quality should not be a luxury, but now we just get sterile cubes. #CostOfLiving #Architecture #Urbanism

Vertical forests usually look better in renders than in reality, especially for our climate. Most of these projects are just expensive marketing that requires insane amounts of water and maintenance to keep the plants alive through winter. Real sustainable urbanism is about better materials and smart drainage, not just slapping some bushes on a balcony. #green #architecture #urbanism

This is what drivers in Edmonton think of speed limits, empowered by an Alberta government and MINISTER OF TRANSPORTATION of all people, who feel.the same way about speed limits (fitst restricting enforcement, then raising limits). This playground zone is of course where MY children play. I can't wait until we have a government who represents the vulnerable population, not selfish interests! #yeg #yegbike #biketooter #urbanism #abpoli #ableg

Replying to
@jcarlson@mapstodon.space It turns out that if we shrink vehicles to a reasonable (ahem, bicycle) size, everyone can park by the front door! #Urbanism

From Strong Towns, a brief comment on a graphic going around social media showing the different priorities of Europe vs America when it comes to land use and transportation. Europe, which focuses on mass transit, has a dense, vibrant, and varied skyline, whereas the American equivalent is a couple of tall buildings being the only useful and productive spot, surrounded by a lot of wasted space in the form of parking lots. Wasted space. I said it. #Urbanism #Transportation
