I haven’t seen #Canada show such resolve against a Balkan opponent since it decisively intervened between Croatia and Serbia as part of Operation Medak Pocket in 1993. #WorldCup #CoupeMondiale #CoupeDuMonde #soccer #football #fifa #FIFAWorldCup #America #sports #Mexico

I haven’t seen an Ivorian make a last-ditch attempt this powerful since Didier Drogba helped end the country’s civil war with an improvised televised speech after Les Éléphants qualified for the 2006 World Cup #usmnt #WorldCup #CoupeMondiale #CoupeDuMonde #soccer #football #fifa #FIFAWorldCup #America #sports #Mexico #canada

I haven’t seen Spain lose nominal control of Cape Verde like this since Portugal and England routed the army of Don Juan José de Austria at Estremoz in 1663, effectively ending the Iberian Union. #usmnt #WorldCup #CoupeMondiale #CoupeDuMonde #soccer #football #fifa #FIFAWorldCup #America #sports #Mexico #canada #MastodonFC

I haven’t seen Iran get such a hard-fought draw since it saved face by decimating the Iraq-backed MEK in August 1988, despite UN Resolution 598 for a ceasefire having already been accepted by both parties and having initially been cast as a “win” for Iraq. #usmnt #WorldCup #CoupeMondiale #CoupeDuMonde #soccer #football #fifa #FIFAWorldCup #America #sports #Mexico #canada #MastodonFC

I haven’t seen Côte d’Ivoire get out ahead of Germany like this since Louis-Gustave Binger and Marcel Treich-Laplène established a series of protectorates there in the late 1880s, reversing the previous French colonial retrenchment in the wake of the Franco-Prussian War and curbing German ambitions in Africa. #usmnt #WorldCup #CoupeMondiale #CoupeDuMonde #soccer #football #fifa #FIFAWorldCup #America #sports #Mexico #canada #MastodonFC

Arjune backs Windies Masters

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC): Former Guyana opening batsman Krishna Arjune believes the West Indies have a strong chance of winning the International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over-40s World Cup, which Guyana will host from October 17-31. Arjune said the squad appears well balanced, and the presence of several former West Indies players has strengthened his belief that the regional side can lift the title.
