Yesterday, queer people were attacked. One is dead. Many are injured. Today, the ghouls crawl out on schedule. They laugh. They celebrate. They joke about corpses and broken bodies. Under their real names, no masks, no shame. Hate has become so normal that they don't even bother hiding it anymore. Imagine being so morally bankrupt that your idea of humour is a murdered queer person (or an immigrant, a Muslim, etc.) No. These people didn't appear out of nowhere. They were cultivated. Excused. Platformed. Told they were "just asking questions." Told their bigotry was "a valid opinion." This is where that road leads. So don't ask us why we need Pride. Berlin loves calling itself the Rainbow Capital. Apparently that rainbow ends at the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district border (I guess it does in other parts as well, but this post is not about that). A district councillor from the Christian Democrats cancelled drag story hours at a public library, claiming children needed protection from "polarisation." She also objected to a drag performer's stage name, criticised a press release for mentioning that an invited author is a lesbian, and now reportedly wants library press releases "vetted" before publication. Let's call this what it is: censorship wrapped in polite bureaucratic language. Queer visibility is not "polarising." Bigotry is. Libraries exist to broaden horizons, not to erase people because a politician finds them inconvenient. The real threats to children are poverty, abuse, neglect and exploitation, not someone reading them a story in fabulous clothes. Diversity isn't something you praise in speeches and ban in practice. There comes a point where "raising awareness" quietly turns into watching events unfold from the safest possible distance. History has never been changed by people who only refreshed their timelines, nodded gravely, and wrote "this is concerning." Being antifascist is not a fashion label. It is not an aesthetic. It is not a personality test result. It is a commitment to standing with those under attack, showing up when it matters, speaking out when it costs something, organising, helping, resisting.
