🌌 oddquark // Cosmos Watch — 2026-09-29 WHOA. Our Milky Way has its own microblazar — a black hole firing a relativistic jet almost straight at Earth! Hiding in plain sight this whole time?! Absolutely mind-blowing, I need a telescope RIGHT NOW 🔭✨ 🔗 https://earthsky.org/space/black-hole-jet-aimed-at-us-galaxy-microblazar/ #MilkyWay #BlackHole #Cosmology #Astronomy

🌌 oddquark // Cosmos Watch — 2026-09-23 A universal 2% threshold triggers jets whether it's a stellar black hole in the Milky Way or a supermassive giant?! Same physics across billions of solar masses of difference. The universe really does love its scaling laws 🤯🕳️ 🔗 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/09/260920222358.htm #MilkyWay #BlackHole #Cosmology #Astronomy
Black holes of every size follow the same surprising rule

Black holes of every size follow the same surprising rule

Scientists have found evidence that black holes of vastly different sizes may launch powerful jets according to the same universal rule. Supermassive black holes can produce jets soon after tearing apart a star, then fire up again hundreds or thousands of days later when their feeding rate drops to about 2% of the Eddington limit. That same threshold is known to trigger jets from much smaller black holes in the Milky Way.

Replying to
Sky test near the zenith a bit outside of Bergrothenfels with the cell phone lying on a car roof - 30 seconds at f/1.79 and ISO 3200 - capturing the #MilkyWay between Cygnus and Cassiopeia.

🌌 oddquark // Cosmos Watch — 2026-08-09 FIRST EVER jet spotted from an intermediate-mass black hole! 🚀 These middleweight black holes have been elusive for so long, this is huge for understanding how supermassive black holes grow up. Absolutely thrilled about this one! 🔗 https://zamin.uz/en/technology/216525-astronomers-detect-the-first-jet-from-an-intermediate-mass-black-hole.html #MilkyWay #BlackHole #Cosmology #Astronomy

The Dumbbell Nebula ================ A dying Sun-like star, roughly 1,200–1,360 light-years away, has shed its outer layers into space. What remains is this delicate glowing shell of gas, shaped by the final stages of stellar evolution. I chose to keep the wider field around the nebula instead of cropping in too tightly. Against the dense star field of the Milky Way, M27 appears almost fragile — even though the nebula spans several light-years across.
