Yeah, my NAS died today. Thank you #QNAP for not informing me about the Intel LPC clock in my NAS even though my NAS is connected to your services and I receive daily emails from you... I'm already in the process of moving my data closer and making my setup less complex so this is just an additional push. This now means that I say goodbye to my local Plex server because a lot of the data lived on the NAS (no worries I have backups and could probably even get the NAS running again if I have to. #localfirst #offlinefirst

Hallo Fediverse 👋 Ich bin Entwickler und baue neben meinem Angestelltenjob an DrillFlow: einen Diagramm-Editor, bei dem jeder Knoten ein eigenes Unterdiagramm öffnen kann. Local-first, ohne Konto, ohne Tracking. #Introduction #NeuHier #LocalFirst #Dev

---------------- 🛠️ Tool =================== Third Street Bookmarks is a local-first X/Twitter bookmark reader that keeps your data under your control. The tool runs on your machine, storing read/favorite/label/note state in an app-owned SQLite database at ~/.tsb/state.db. No sync source can reset your personal state, and you can switch between sync providers freely. Key Features The tool provides a dark, X-styled UI for browsing bookmarks with sort, filter, and pagination. Filtering supports multi-select categories, author voice, read/unread status, a "Forgotten Gems" mode, multi-folder favourites, and 7-color labels for visual triage. AI Chat lets you ask natural language questions about your bookmark collection, powered by Claude Code CLI (claude -p) or Codex CLI (codex --full-auto) running locally. No API key is required. Bookmark Podcast generates AI audio digests from your collection, organized by topic, recent bookmarks, or custom prompts, with a real-time waveform visualizer. Voice playback offers three tiers: free browser SpeechSynthesis, ElevenLabs, and Sarvam AI, with a per-card speaker button. Stats provides scrollable analytics including KPIs, timeline charts, category growth by tweet date, engagement leaders, posting hour heatmaps, and top domains. Per-bookmark notes are included in search. Quoted tweets display inline. Sync and Classification Pluggable sync: pull bookmarks from Field Theory CLI (ft sync) or birdclaw (birdclaw sync bookmarks), switchable in the UI. birdclaw unlocks Liked Tweets, Inbox Triage, and AI Digests. Classification runs through classify.py, supporting regex (offline), OpenAI, Claude CLI, or Codex CLI as backends. The content cache lives in bookmarks.json (never committed). The app-owned SQLite at ~/.tsb/state.db is the source of truth for all user actions. Stack: React 18 + Vite frontend, Express.js on port 3456 with better-sqlite3, Python for classification, local CLIs for AI features. Requires Node.js 20+ and Python 3.10+. Note: haven't tested personally. 🔹 tool #bookmarks #localfirst #sqlite #twitter 🔗 Source:

You paid $250 for a thermostat. Three years later, the company was acquired. The device still worked. The servers it depended on didn't. This is not bad luck. This is the business model. And it's the same model being applied to agricultural technology, farm management software, and precision irrigation platforms. https://sein.com.au/articles/your_smart_home_is_a_rental/ #Selfhosted #HomeAssistant #LocalFirst #Privacy #OpenSource #SmartHome #IndieWeb

I am looking for some #localFirst solution for blog authoring what would publish (all or some) posts to an activityPub server like to a relay, with publishing of new versions of posts as updates. And fetch new posts, comments, mentions, messages, and reactions arrive to my local-first thing as a Feed or an Inbox. Sounds like I want "Fido with formatting and attachments" over #ActivityPub . The #Fido part is avoid need to be "always online", but sync that few times per day when have time for it

wishing i was at #fosdem but 95% just so i could be incredibly annoying an pick the brains of the @p2panda@autonomous.zone people the way i've been annoying most of my alumni networks and @halihax@mstdn.ca #sideprojects residents this week. the lowest-friction way to do last-writer-wins (no conflict detection, no crdts) #p2p #localfirst folder sync between devices on any native platform (linux, macos, windows, ios, android, etc.) still unsolved. i'm looking for the most boring answer possible, not the most exciting one. would be nice if the answer also did nat hole-punching which, uh, i realize conflicts with the "not exciting" bit. no, ipv6 not the answer. ;) i'm looking for a solution that works everywhere, today.
