I was wondering what percentage of my #ThreeGoodThings are of the ‘cessation of hostilities’ type.
It is (in my firm view) that a bad thing stopping is a lesser class of good thing. Still good, and good to mark, but what I want, what we all want, is good things which are in themselves positive. A kindness from someone, a lucky find, a good meal with friends.
Quite a few of mine are ‘this thing I had to do is over’, or ‘I have finished this chore’ or ‘I grasped a nettle and did a thing I need to do that was I was procrastinating’. All of these •are• good things, definitely. But I’d like to have more of those positive good things.

Warning pedantic comment incoming. (I hold esp BBC journalists to a higher standard.)
There’s a picture caption in this heart-warming story which says she was given ‘free reign’ of the hospital on her visit.
Yes, it should be free rein; it’s a horse metaphor, not a monarchy metaphor. You can see how it happens: if you only hear it, you might leap to the wrong conclusion about the image. It is different, though: free reign is unfettered power over others; free rein is freedom for self only.
