Wild Water Buffalo Bubalus arnee Palm Oil Detectives

Massive, muscular, and critically under threat, the Wild Water Buffalo Bubalus arnee is the endangered ancestor of all domestic buffalo breeds. Once roaming vast swathes of South and Southeast Asia, fewer than 4,000 individual buffaloes remain today, scattered across shrinking habitats in India, Nepal, Cambodia, and a handful of neighbouring nations. Their decline is driven by interbreeding with domestic buffalo species, habitat destruction from farming and palm oil plantations, hunting, and dis

Nextdoor keeps trying to get me to “Discover [my] neighborhood,” but it does so by using slop photos for my city and neighborhood that have no relation to reality (and make the not-my-street look a little gross). Strong signal to not join the platform that can’t be arsed to use existing imagery. #Buffalo

#Buffalo #NewYork #USA #US Metro’s poor will be hardest hit by climate change Mike Loewe 6–7 minutes Climate change is arriving in Buffalo City, but its dreadful impacts will not be felt equally. The poor will bear the brunt, though suburbanites will feel it too, along with all the metro’s flora and fauna, its rivers, estuaries and oceans https://www.dailydispatch.co.za/news/2026-09-22-metros-poor-will-be-hardest-hit-by-climate-change/ (text available in “reading mode”) #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateInstability sAtrocity #pollution #ecology #environment

Growing older with16 grandchildren was all the impetus Métis Cree writer and artist Sherry Leigh Williams needed to produce her first children’s picture book.“As the (Elders) die off, there isn't anybody left to tell the story,” Williams said. “It felt to me really important to do something for the kids.”In Papaashi Bufloo: The Buffalo Who Raced Horses, Williams tells the story of her great-grandmother Mary Anne Deschamps Rabaska, who was born in 1875 near Pigeon Lake, Alta.

It can also be really ambiguous. I was just looking at a post by @benpate@mastodon.social that tagged a #buffalo in the city of #Boulder and I realized it could as easily be about a large boulder in the city of Buffalo.

@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org Sadly, as #HamOnt is between #Toronto and #Buffalo we get bombarded with Sabres, Bills, Bandits and all the Toronto stuff. CFL makes some in roads but CPL is so far down the list. TBF Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the MVP in the NBA is from Hamilton and they have given him the key to the city. He invest big $ in the town. We are an hour down the road from Brampton, home of half of the homegrown #CanMNT. Let's go find out what's in the water.
