"Beginning in the summer, El Niño typically peaks around December or the following January." 🧵 "#ElNiño can contribute to severe droughts in one part of the world and heavy rainfall in others — both of which can disrupt growing seasons in key breadbaskets of the world." Frida Garza for Grist.org: https://grist.org/food-and-agriculture/the-super-el-nino-is-here-what-happens-next-could-upend-farming-worldwide/ In 1877, one of the strongest El Niños ever recorded was associated with historic droughts across Asia, as well as in parts of Brazil and northern Africa. These droughts, “along with colonial policies, contributed to famines in many regions which were really devastating,” said Deepti Singh @climatechirper.bsky.social. The fatalities associated with these famines were upward of 50 million people. Rare sight of the British Empire taking the side of Indigenous people and of course the Whites rebelled and started their own country over it. #Trump #BritishEmpire #America250 #July4th #Whiteness #History

#KemiBadenoch says that the #UK was built on #FossilFuels. But #Ecotricity founder #DaleVince dismisses Bad Enoch's fantasy. He says that the UK was "built on slavery, on racism, on colonialism, on Empire. We abused the rest of the world to be a rich country" Dale Vince is of course entirely right. So his comments should be commonplace and unworthy of sharing. But the UK has never de-imperialised. So Dale is on his own. 😡 #ukpol #BritishEmpire #colonialism #slavery #racism #imperialism

Brits celebrate VE Day ... because after invading 90% of all countries, they are obsessed with the one time when they might not be the baddies, cos the other guy was yer actual feckin Hitler 🙄 #VEday #BritishEmpire
