I remember being taught about search operators in school. Of course they’d take that away, it’s such a powerful way to get exactly what you’re looking for, no bullshit.
Conservatives don’t care about rule of law, they think whatever they want to do is fine, and whatever their enemies do is crime. It’s just a question of having the power to enforce that view.
Always judge yourself by looking at other people, that’s what smart people always say. It’s especially wise to compare yourself to the worst people you can find, that way you will feel the greatest. That’s just logic!
People may believe in earnest, but evil men saw an opportunity in this faith. The John Birchers and every right wing domino to fall after them have used the promise of salvation to pave several new lanes on the road to hell with your good intentions.
Emerson was right, faith should be a private matter. It’s between you and God, don’t perform your piety to the world - there will always be an authoritarian, listening. Ready to use it.
Overton window, or at least perceptions about it. We’re getting closer to a culture where being labelled socialist isn’t as politically poisonous as it once was, but they still think we’re not ready for class consciousness.
I remember when his takes were the absolute top shelf, earlier this century when we all loved tech so much and thought the internet would be the final nail in the coffin of old world ignorance and grudges. Sad to see this is where it’s led him to.
It appears to say a thousand times more.
Which - holy shit - how did we not clock that massive self-report? They have so few thoughts that this strikes them as a desirable and possible increase.
I can’t laugh at them, I don’t even know who this is or whether it’s them. I didn’t even know they were making an X-Men film, fuck it congrats to this random person?
There’s still well written stuff being made, it’s just that there’s so much now that the second you find creatives you like, you memorise their names and follow their work, or you’re stuck with whatever an algorithm wants you to see.
The distance thing is a real issue. Look at a list of countries by size and three of the top five all have massive long-standing authoritarianism issues.
Oh, but let’s put on our thinking caps! What is it they always say? “Won’t somebody think of the children?”
“That’s my secret, captain. I’m always thinking about children.”
…I’ll catch up with you there, save me a seat.
Reminds me of the magic super beds in Dungeon Crawler Carl. Yeah you get unnaturally good full rest in two hours, but you start to miss the time spent unplugging from life.
A couple things. The Americans who call themselves liberals didn’t vote for this, and the American liberals who did vote for it were aided and abetted by the most radicalised and financially empowered conservative oligarchs in literal human history. So if your only goal is to put as many people as possible into a toilet and flush it, great job. If not, you might have lost your way.
I know you’re speaking in the trouble of your heart, and I feel it too. Please don’t will that ending. I think it can end quietly. The bombs won’t make it easier.
Ah but you see, when something is hot it makes closeted conservatives uncomfortable.
You see the problem? To a conservative, nothing is more illegal than making them personally uncomfortable. And nobody is more inherently conservative than a billionaire media mogul.
Finding out is always optional, if you simply never introspect or allow yourself to experience doubt. Which, ha ha, it turns out the more your twisted beliefs hurt you, the harder it gets to face them down! So, that’s fun.
There’s a lot of daylight between “the exact thing a word means” and “the messy group of people who can currently be vaguely be defined that way”. Most ‘capitalists’ are just working class people who’ve been tricked or don’t do a lot of thinking. It’s wrong to conflate them with the rigorous meaning of a word that predates any living person.
Main reason I read posts like this is to learn what the cool kids are using instead. I edit audio like a few times a year so it helps to hear things like this
Progressive and socialist platforms are very popular, in hindsight. It’s just that propaganda can make people who rely on, say, the ACA vote against “Obamacare”. And don’t get me started on the voter suppression and gerrymandering in the states.
It’s never as simple as “just say what people want to hear” unless you are low-down cheaters who only court hateful morons.
That’s setting aside how many Democrats just dance to the tune of Citizens United and just lose or punch left.
Fascism is eating the country alive. The only way it ever ends is when it finally eats itself. Anything that hastens that inevitable ruin is to the good.
