This an an absolutely exceptional claim that would put the company decades beyond any tech I have seen. They are claiming remote control of a complicated animal in flight. They also claim it is without training and over distances impossible for a bird as small as a pigeon to carry radio gear. This is not believable without any evidence.

His 'fainting' was likely cardiac arrest. It sounds a lot like heart attack symptoms. I have heard of this happening to people in the US who work in finance. It's never 'overwork' here. It's just a heart attack from poor life style choices.

Pretty impressive. The ability to operate 13 miles continuously makes un-teatherd humanoid robots viable for a lot of tasks. Once the AI is developed they could deliver mail or stock items in a department store. It'll be interesting to see how long it will be from this race before we see bi-pedal robots completing a full marathon.

I haven’t thought about it in a while but the premise of the article rings true. Desktops are overall disposable. Gpu generations are only really significant with new cpu generations. CPUs are the same with real performance needed a new chipset and motherboard. At that point you are replacing the whole system. Is there a platform that challenges that trend?

That's one way to solve the AI data center cooling issue. Of course it would make the data centers deadly to support staff, so I anticipate that will make it to market.

Not sure how worth mentioning it is considering how good the overall write up is. Even though the human visual system has a non-linear perception of luminance. The camera data needs to be adjusted because the display has a non-linear response. The camera data is adjusted to make sure it appears linear to the displays face. So it’s display non-uniform response that is being corrected, not the human visual system. There is a bunch more that can be done and described.

When an objects time was nearly 5 decades that puts a bit of context around it. By modern standards nearly everything from decades ago is garbage. VHS has many competitors, but they were too expensive to really challenge for regular people. The quality of the media determined the quality of your experience. Cheap tapes broke and looked bad. The fact that a tape could be rented from blockbuster dozens of times really showed the durability of the media. Many tapes I had were pulled from rental pools and they looked acceptable.

Bipedal robots make sense only because the infrastructure around was made for humans. Wheeled and tracked robots can have trouble though spaces designed for humans. Designing with wheelchair access is mind had to happen on purpose. A small set of stairs or uneven terrain can create a big challenge.

Technology makes possibilities and not outcomes. The idea of a bipedal mechanical assistant that can carry , move and lift items for the elderly , on call 24/7 could be another possibility. It’s likely things would go as you say. Still there is a possibility that some other applications could come out of this kind of bipedal platform as well. Delivering mail is a complex task for a machine. This is a technology forum so at some point we should be excited that there are possibilities in the future. The distance these devices could go gives many more possibilities than a similar platform that can move shorter distances. My first thought for a platform that could move through human spaces at 13 miles an hour was a military robot for urban combat similar to a terminator. So mail delivery robot is the optimistic version of the future.

There were many other formats that came and went between vhs and dvd. There is a lot of media history being conveniently forgotten to make it seem like VHS was the only video format until 1995. I owned many of them at the time they came out. They all had advantages and drawbacks. when using the tv’s in most homes at the time, the advantages didn’t matter. You needed to use high resolution composite computer monitors with the video sources and surround sounds equipped receivers to get a significantly different experience. That was such an expensive niche . The killer thing that vhs had over the numerous formats that came and went was price. Once dvd got inexpensive enough it took over. That was about a decade after DVD’s introduction. I agree that dvd will likely outlive the legacy of VHS in pure years.

3chip cmos sensors are about 20-25 years out of date technology. Mosaic pattern sensors have eclipsed them on most imaging metrics.

This is a remote control situation. The bird would do bird things once out of a control signal. They aren't claiming full override and programming. I could easily see strapping a camera to a pigeon and training it. Maybe even remotely monitoring it and using a pre-trained electrical pulse to change direction. These claims are beyond that. This is possibly the equivalent of scientist cures cancer where a reported misunderstands what is actually being presented.
