Another update on the Seattle surveillance pricing ban: WA AI Resistance and Washington People's Privacy have an Action Network campaign up too, focusing on one especially problematic amendment. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/seattle-reject-the-dangerous-loss-prevention-amendment-and-pass-a-clean-fair-transparent-pricing-ordinance #seattle #surveillance #surveillancePricing

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@thenexusofprivacy/116953787145718165

Updates on fighting Flock and other ALPRs in Washington:

  • Issaquah passed a moratorium on ALPR deployment

  • Renton voted to keep the Flock cameras off (although authorized other ALPR usage once it's compliant with SB 6002)

  • in Auburn, a proposal to audit of practices and outcomes lost 4-3,

Flock is on the agenda this week at the Renton, Issaquah, and Redmond city councils! Washington state continues to be one of the leaders in the fight against Flock and other ALPRs ("automated license plate readers", which despite their name actually also allow law enforcement to search for cars based on their color, make, or what bumper stickers are on them). https://thenexusofprivacy.net/flock-is-on-the-agenda-this-week-at-the-renton-issaquah-and-redmond-city-councils/ #flock #surveillance #privacy #WApol

Thank you for the outstanding and timely thread on the FISA reauthorization vote, I really appreciate it. Have you seen this Brennan Center's analysis "Johnson Proposal Would Place No Limits on Backdoor Searches and Expands Government's Ability to Exploit Warrantless Access to Americans’ Communications"? @SeanCasten@mastodon.social

TAKE ACTION: tomorrow is the last day for the House to vote on SB 6002 , the Driver Privacy Act, regulating Flock and other ALPRs.

So if you're a Washington resident, *now* is the time to contact your state Representatives. They're getting so much email that phone calls are a lot more effective at this point.

Here's a script. Read on for an update (and info about how to find their phone numbers if you don't have them handy) 1/N
