You just can’t win, basically. I would have appreciated your careful driving however, so thank you.

What part is sad to you? I don’t see any sadness here, just the joy of finding fun in stupid everyday things no matter your age, and even when nobody is looking.

The Matrix. Not sure how that isn't mentioned yet! First movie was a masterpiece that became a classic, the rest were completely unnecessary. When my brother showed The Matrix to his kid, she asked "Is there another one?" and he said "No."

Glasses are seen as a sign of intelligence because intelligence correlates with having a good education - and (especially historically) so does being able to afford glasses.

I loved the first Hollow Knight incredibly, and I really wanted to love the sequel Silksong just as much, but the problem, you see, is that I am Not Good. The first game had an OK difficulty and plenty of charms to help so I made it to the end, but all the first game DLC was so crazy hard I couldn't even. And that made me sad. I hoped Silksong would be a return to a more accessible place, but while it started reasonable it quickly got to a difficulty where I couldn't keep up, no matter how much I tried. Way more than the original game. So fuck you, Silksong. I love your world and I love your music and I love your vibe and I want to love you but I hate you. I've recently been playing a lot of Minecraft.

I did say "historically" The thing about stereotypes is they tend to persist for a long time, even after they are no longer true (if they even ever were)

Could be a child (and in this case probably is) but I've known people like this as grown-ups too. They just get really excited about the thing and want to have/do/whatever the thing and have absolutely no inhibition about using whatever method at their disposal to get it. The rationality of the choice and the consequences just don't factor in - or are at least something their brain tells them is "a problem for later"

It's a good question, because when you think about it, surgery is a combination of carefully controlled intentional injury, and repair of that injury.

The thing that makes me upset isn't that it's not for me. I accept that plenty of games aren't for me, and that I shouldn't play them. I'm never going to get into Dark Souls or Elden Ring, because they aren't going to be my thing. The part that makes me upset is that Hollow Knight very much _was_ for me, and was a game I enjoyed and have very fond memories of. I was very much looking forward to Silksong, but the difficulty is so much higher that I can no longer engage with this world I once loved. It feels in TV terms like watching Season 1 of a show and really getting into it, and then when Season 2 comes out, you excitedly start watching - episode 1, episode 2, but your TV somehow stops working every time you start the third episode. Or any episode after the third. Everyone is talking about how great the show is and you've seen clips and you want to experience it, but no matter how much you try, you can't. If I hadn't seen Season 1, I'd just give up after those two episodes like "That show's obviously not working for me" - but I _have_ seen Season 1. I'm invested, yet now I can't see it through. _That's_ why I'm upset.

@Techmoan@youtube.com

Not exactly a "commentator" as he isn't usually talking about the state of tech as a whole but specific products, and usually vintage ones.

But you mentioned Fran so I think there's some overlap.

If you want to listen to a retired Brirish chap go on about weird retro audio formats for half an hour, he's your man.

He does occasionally review modern products, and if they are crap he will absolutely tell you so. He has a lot of integrity and it shows.

I just got a new phone and I’m trying Kvaesitso to move away from Nova, but I just can’t get used to it. I think I just really like the paradigm of having a ‘desktop’ where I can freely arrange my most used apps in a specific layout, and Kvaesitso - by intentional design choice - doesn’t allow it. It’s a shame for me because I love the ethos, I love the open-source approach, and I love that it’s a wholly original launcher - rather than a fork of the stock or anything else. For some it’s the perfectl launcher I’m sure, but to me it’s like even after I unlock the device I’m still stuck in something that feels like a lock screen to me, and I feel weirdly trapped and claustrophobic. Not sure why it makes me feel that way, but it does!

Whoops. I commented, decided to rephrase and edited. But it didn’t result in an edit and I didn’t notice as that’s when I went to bed.

Your comment is interestingly another example in itself of how we speak different languages. In British English you generally can’t use “anymore” with a positive sentence because “anymore” means something was the case, but is now not. “We don’t speak the same language anymore” - OK in BE “We speak different languages anymore” - Not OK in BE You’d have to instead say: “We speak different languages these days” - OK in BE
